What's the chances I will be shooting my Varmint A4 that I ordered on May 1st - 07, before Christmas is upon us.

Nearly as good as mine, 'cuz mine was placed mid-April!

Forgot to reply about the bayonet lug.
At this time, the production "pre-ban" models will have them, although, as already pointed out, there are no (currently available) bayonets that will fit it. Other accessories made to fit onthe lugs will, however, be usable. Steve/RRA |

Steve,
Is there a way you can let us know how many LAR-8's are actually on order? Doesn't matter which version. Also, how many of the "pre" orders have been being cancelled? 8654 |
At least 1...
Forrest |
At least 1 still on order, I mean... For a 20inch standard 'preban' LAR8-A2 rifle... Since February 15, 2006... I have no plans to cancel... And that's just for me, personally... We have a couple of other shop orders, too... Forrest |
We won't be disclosing numbers (that's confidential info), and the calls haven't started yet for order confirmation.

Forrest, you MAY have noticed that I have had an extra ordinary interest in following you and your on-order LAR-8. Now for the REAL story. Back in March, a friend and I bet on when RRA would ship and we used your receipt of YOUR LAR-8 as the benchmark. You must have received your LAR-8 by close of business 10/31/07 in order for me to win. Sadly that did not happen. (Seemed like such a good bet back in March.) But I'm still pulling for you to be one of the very early recipients AND I'll be thinking of you when I pick up that check at Jamal's steak house !! 5sub Oh, there was nothing magical about 10/31/07. He got to pick a date and I got to pick before or after. |

5Sub,
WIll, by any chance, you be attending the SHOT Show? If so, look me up (probalby at our booth in the new LE section) and I'll buy you lunch...at the LVCC a couple of hot dogs and some chips are gonna cost more than a really nice dinner at a steak house. Steve/RRA |
Steve,
What is your lunch budget? There could be a lot of dogs and chips. 8654 |
5sub, Sorry for my small part in making you a loser... If I had known about your bet, I would have been pulling for you... I know that many are disappointed with the long gestation of the LAR-8. So am I. But, the reality is that they'll ship when they ship. Nothing that I say or do will change that fact... Personally, I'd much rather have the problems worked out before they ship than after. And I'm sure that no matter how much I'd like to be playing with my LAR-8 right now, Steve (and the RRA boys) are even more anxious to be making some money from selling them... So, I'll be getting my LAR-8 when I get it. After all, it isn't like I'm out anything until then. And it isn't like I don't have other stuff to play with (including things taking the same mags) until then, either... So I'll just hang in there, anxiously awaiting my call from Steve... Forrest P.S. What was the bet for, 5sub...? |

You might ask your friend to consider going double or nothing for 10/31/2008. |

It is getting a little cool for Junish, isn't it...? Forrest |

Actually the delay is alright it just keeps moving other weapons up the list like the TPD AXR and after that maybe the MASADA will beat it who knows...
Slash did we ever get an answer regarding the use of your buffers in order to allow millspec stocks? |

Steve, Not yet certain about SHOT but your offer of "....a couple of hot dogs AND chips........" extends beyond mere generosity !!! I mean Ruth's Chris would have been fine but that restaurant is likely about half the cost of the SHOT food court. If I decide to go, I'll certainly be by to visit with you. 5sub |

The bet was for steak dinner.* I picked you for a peg as you have studiously followed the delivery threads for a long time. 5sub *Since I'm buying the wine will be 'mediocre' ! |

We take what pleasures we can... Did you specify what kind of steaks? Like, from what animal...? Enjoy the meal, even if you are paying... Forrest |

Those would be BEEF steaks !! 5sub |

Had I not all ready paid for mine in full many months ago, I would of, by now spent the money and would have settled for something less. While I like to think I have the patience of Jobe this project is certainly testing that theory. Suddenly the BATFE wait does not seem so bad. Anxiously awaiting production.

Nice sabre. Bad thing is... you can't patrol with that for long.
Before I would use that, I'd sling my long arm and draw my 1911. 8654 |

I hardly notice the weight. It does get in the way, though. But NO ONE !@#$s with me at Entry Control. |

Steve,
You can cancel my order for a LAR8 I have no more time to wait for a rifle that some day might come out. RRA is a great company with great rifles, but you-all have done a disservice to your customers on this project and eventually to your company for less then straight honest information and talk about the problems in getting this rifle out to the market. I have decided to spend my hard earn money on a rifle from one of your competitors. Good luck with the eventual introduction of the LAR8. Regards, Steve Duell Indianapolis, IN |
I hope he ordered before me, puts me one rifle closer. Keep up the good work Steve.
As I haven't put any money down, I'll continue to be patient. Either it will work out or it won't. Assuming it does, I am confident it will kick ass.

I am fairly concerned about how soon they will be available... Steve mentioned the calls for order verification haven't even started. Will they call the dealer and count on the dealer calling the customer? How long do you give the dealer to get back in touch? Or, will RRA call the actual customer... how did they get the name from the dealer if the order wasn't placed on the website? Lots of questions. I would bet they have several hundred orders. I can only imagine it would about a month to verify all open orders. Yes, it is only a month, but SHOT is only a couple months away and at that time, it will be 2 years. I just wish the rifles would start shipping... I need a new upper for my .338 Federal room clearer.....
Have $$$$$$... need uppers... 8654 |

8654, As a dealer, when Rock River calls us on 308's that we have currently on order, regardless if purchased on behalf of a customer or for our general stock...the answer will be SEND'EM! 308 is gonna be sweeeeeeet, I wish I could keep them all. John |

John,
I thought about that too... and was hoping the same. I'm sure they will move. Still, I wonder how many orders there are... takes time. No one wants them shipped faster than I do... well, maybe Forrest!!!!! Nah! 8654 |
There's a joker in every crowd... Of course, if you ordered a 16inch midlength, you might well be getting it before I get my 20inch standard A2 'preban'... Forrest |
Me too. |
See...I CAN leave you guys alone for a couple days without anything really bad happening.
Since the cataloged configurations will be the first built and shipped, it wil be pretty easy to move the rifles down the list to the next dealer if we need to. In most cases, we don't know who the dealer's customer is, so we'll have to depend on the dealer to contact them. We'll allow time for responses. Steve/RRA |

Everyone...have a nice weekend.
I'm actually going to try to get to the range, on my own time, and put some holes in paper. Nice fourty degrees. Absolutely no mirage. Wind should be okay in the valley. Perfect. Steve/RRA |
I'm going to try and poke some holes in paper this weekend too... Have fun, Steve... Forrest |
Hmm...wait for RRA, or spend $5K plus for a major competitor's AR10 variant.
I'll wait. |
Armalite makes a very nice rifle. They work too. |
$5,000?????????????????? |
If it's a Colt, it's a copy of an original ArmaLite.
I am not LARRYG36. Racing is life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting. If your AR10 is marked Geneseo, IL, it's still an AR10 no matter what some people say. |
If not mistaken he is refering to the SR-25 from KAC out of FLA. I too think I wall be waiting for my RRA LAR-8 then buy another upper once production is stable. |
Well, the SR25 is not the only 7.62/.308 AR out there from a major competitor. |

I didn't know that... What other ones are there, Larry? Forrest |

Since no one here could know who these guys were let me say this about SR-25's. Maybe two years before the AWB ended I sold two pre-ban SR-25's to a couple of ChristiansInAction operators for $4500 each. (These ops guys had to have the model I had because these were already threaded for a suppressor.) Maybe I could have hung these two up for more money but these were really decent folks. $5,000 sounds a little sporty for even today's SR-25 though I haven't kept up with that market for a while now. One more item of interest that I learned from these two. Both had shucked their govt paid Leupold scopes and - out of their own pockets - bought Nightforce. One guy said unless you plan to jump out of perfectly good airplanes and fall down mountain sides the Leupold is perfectly fine. Still nice to note what the pros are using. 5sub |

Hey, Steve, my phone rang a couple of times today when I couldn't get to it in time.
It wasn't you calling about shipping my LAR-8A2, was it? Just making sure... Forrest |
Forrest,
I don't think so, but I'll certainly check with our sales Department to see if they've started calling yet. Steve/RRA |

Steve
I have a Standard A4 LAR-8 on order. I want to put a Magpul UBR stock on it. (They will probably ship about the same time). It requires a carbine buffer and spring. Does the LAR-8 use a standard buffer and spring? |
"Buy American while there is still time"
will the lar-8 be compatible with armalite or DPMS .308 barrels?
UBR stocks...I haven't seen one yet, but from what I understand, they use our entry stock's CAR length rifle-style receiver extension and CAR buffer and spring. We had to lengthen the receiver extension on the Mids LAR-8s to accomodate the longer spring and buffer used in them. I don't think your plan will work with the RRA standard componets, but I think the short buffer made by ARFCOMer Slash MAY work with it.
Barrels...if it is compatible, it would be purely by coincidence and not by design. Steve/RRA |

Hey, Steve, I was thinking of buying myself something nice for my birthday, which comes up in a couple of weeks.
Then, I thought, why not a standard 20inch LAR-8A2? Conveniently enough, I already have one on order... Forrest |
