16" Match Barrel - Not sure how .300 blk performs on a 16" barrel
What Atlas bipod adapter is that?

Could be fun

Pistol gas.  Carbine works okay on 16's if you're shooting supers and subsonics suppressed.  Sometimes, though, subs suppressed don't work properly with carbine gas (and they'll almost NEVER work unsuppressed).  Pistol gas alleviates this altogether.  Supers are fine no matter what though, so if you intend to shoot only supers, go with whatever gas system floats your boat.  Pistol will make it much more versatile though, and if you get a hankerin to have the barrel cut back, you won't be fucked over by the gas system.

Absolutely no need to go beyond 9" of barrel with .300 Black.

unless you plan on shooting only supers, live in a state where SBR's are a no-no (and pistol isn't your thing), or just don't want to hassle with a shorter barrel.  ballistically, you're correct.  no need for a longer barrel, no additional fps gain (well, it's small enough it's negligible for practical discussion), but some folks like to shoulder and either can't do it with a shorter barrel legally, or just don't want to go the pistol route.

From what I've read over the past hour, a 16" .300 blk barrel doesn't seem to have any issues running suppressed or unsuppressed. Seems pretty common, actually.

Like Utah said no need for a 300blk in anything over 9in. That was what the cartridge was designed around. Your only gaining 75fps going from 9-16in. Even if you want to hunt with supers the 9in is where it's at 110tac tsx is ungodly lethal all the way down to 1500 fps. That's about 250-300 yards from a 9in.

On another note anyone running a 15in rail on a 16in barrel with an AAC suppressor in here? Would love an inspiration picture. I am going to start a recce build with a 16in bison barrel, 15in MI SS gen 2 rail, AAC brake/SDN6, and a 44mm objective optic. Debating on Vortex 4-16 or the PA FFP 4-14. I have the PA on my 22 precision trainer and it tracks dead on and the glass is great for a sub 300 optic, it has has held up on a buddies 308 bolt gun for about 2 years. Would be a great range gun optic. Probably run it in an ADM recon scout low mount so cheek weld with a sopmod is dead nuts...

I was speaking purely from an aesthetics standpoint ...and Noveske makes a good looking 16" barrel

Best rifle in this thread, IMO.

Major jealous of your MRE.

As a dyed in the wool rattle-canner, I vote no paint for the MRE build.

Though:

Possibly painted MRE capturing Saddam (lower left corner)?  Or maybe just very dusty, Iraq and all.

Almost all of them photographed are un-painted, and frankly I think they look better that way - it's pretty hard to justify them as a "best option" for a non-clone build, no reason not to go full out "accurate" clone.

Also, needs more Redi-Mag.

Thought I'd give you guys a quick comparison of a Colt SOCOM and Lilja M4 profile while it's waiting to be sold.

Rear of the barrel - difference is the taper that exists near the chamber on the Lilja

Barrel profile under handguard - same diameter except no M203 flat

Barrel profile at gas block / FSB - same dimensions and even the slight step is replicated on the Lilja

Barrel profile near the muzzle is the similar except no M203 notch and longer. Lilja is missing the smaller diameter machining once you get near the muzzle.

Here's my latest build.  I've been a fan of the recce concept since like 2003 and have owned several iterations over the years.  I think the optics industry is finally getting some good options.  I also believe that your average 3gun rifle pretty much embodies the recce concept and is the closest application the civilian market will see of the rifle and concept (CQB rifle with longer range/precision capabilities).  I put this rifle together to shoot 3gun and also as a go-to recce setup.  I've got one of the new Leupold VX-6 Multigun 1-6 scopes with the CMR-2 reticle on order.  When it arrives in will go in an Aero 30mm mount to replace the Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5 currently on the gun.  The other change will be the brake.  It's currently an SJC Titan (more competitive for 3gun), but I'm working with SJC to create a version of their brake with a 51-T mount so I can use my AAC suppressors.  That will minimize the blast in a recce role.

14.5" BCM BFH Midlength URG, self-chopped FSB
BCM KMR 13
BCM BCG
BCM Mod4 Gunfighter CH
Magpul MBUS Pro Offset irons
Leupold Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5, SPR
Nikon 20 MOA mount
Surefire X300 Ultra

Currently sitting in my DD SBR lower, but once custom brake/suppressor mount is finalized, it will be pinned/welded and the upper will go on an Anderson build out:
Geissele SSA-E
Magpul CTR
BCM Gunfighter Mod 1

I've been pretty in love with the one photograph of the "recce" with the "A" tube, Lilja barrel, A2 stock, and fixed FSB.  Been debating whether or not I can justify getting KOBK's ARMS Versapod adapter off the EE for it.

The terrible and unfortunate things is that I only have one MRE.

There's at least three builds I'd like to do with one.

It was a heavily cropped personal photograph posted by a member here a while back.

Not too long afterwards, the photograph was removed.

Not sure why this was done, but since the photograph belongs to someone else, and who posts in this thread, I'll let them decide whether they want to post it up again.

It was a 16" Lilja barreled carbine with a fixed FSB, MRE-A, KAC M4QD comp, a Versapod, an A2-style lower forging, an A2 stock, and a Leupold MK4 3-9x36 (probably a TS30 variant, but to tell exactly).

I'm about to buy a suppressor cover, so you won't be able to tell the can isn't painted. The bipod stays on my 700P (which isn't spray painted) most of the time, so that will remain unpainted for the time being as well..

I just fixed it lol. Yeah it bothered me too. I also Added a bit more Army Green for summer time and some tan to make it break up more. I like at the end to use the olive over the khaki and army green for the snakeskin overlay. Also i mist the olive if when i am done there is tan that is just too pure tan and stands out.

Shit, I liked the leaves in there on the old paint job.. New one looks good too though! I guess that's why spray paint is nice, you can redo it any time.
