Overall thoughts on this setup (kz + micro) ?

Seriously considering this.

Is anyone running an KZ -Aimpoint T-1 combo on their A1's carry handle? Since I haven't been able to find a Primary Arms red dot,I'm seriously thinking of just "biting the bullet" and trying to find a T-1,instead.
My Colt is an old friend, having purchased it new in 1982,so it deserves the best, right?

Also, is that a middy gas system?

Looks like 11.5 barrel w/ Carbine gas.

Now if it was truly a "Modern A1" wouldn't the carry handle be removable?

Thanks. I hate "A2 sights" on a combat/SHTF weapon. Love "A1 sights". Don't know why Justin's A1 carry handles never really caught on. It's a nice piece of kit to have available.

This was another one my lightweight/kiss modern-ish A1 builds.

You nailed it!

Stick, is that a personal rifle or one of your many "subjects" ?

Need some input here guys.

I currently have this:

DSC_1120_lzn-1 by The Dorsal Fin, on Flickr

I also have a stripped A3 upper, 16" LW mid length barrel, barrel parts, etc... en route to me right now.

Do I.... turn my little RO723 clone into an M4gery (also have a RAS en route) and put the C7 upper on the mid length barrel I have coming.

OR

Do I leave my RO723 un-molested and just build out the mid length upper as my flatop?

suggestions?

Leave that RO723 as is, build a flat top middie...just my .02.

I would use an A1 stock to complete the middy build, like a couple posts up.

Irons only for this one, maybe a PA micro in a kz mount.

Going to get an aimpoint for my other upper in progress.

Very nice.

I have a similar build planned but I'm thinking about rattle canning it FDE. Where did you get the A1 upper? I've been shopping around but can't find much besides DPMS.

It's a bushmaster upper I took off my Bushy RO723 clone.

It was a listed part # for a while, but no longer on the site.

I'd check the EE / GB / Etc... for them

It's actually my first AR from about 25 years ago. It's now my youngest son's because it's stupid light. I wouldn't an upper like yours for a trunk gun.

Surplus Colt upper that I got somewhere back in the day and slapped it on a GWACS Cav-15 MKII lower. I ditched the light on it and moved it to another project but other then that the rifle is the same.

Without the optic, spare mag pouch, and light (which was removed after the pic); she weighs in around 6.5lbs empty. For a full length rifle it's handy. I want to do a chop job on stock and make it shorter.

Keep them coming guys!

I'm curious if anyone has any A1's with railed forearms. The only one I've seen that I can recall is Stickman's carbine with the DD Lite 7.0 on it. I'll post some of my past builds. Regrettably I sold these parts off...It was a Colt A1 with an FNMI 1:7 20":

AIM Surplus carrier (full-auto) w/ MPI bolt

Colt 6920 take-off barrel (unfired!)

PSA Classic Lower

Troy Battlerail Delta

PA red dot (saving for a T-1)

Surefire x300 ultra

it's a standard 1/3 cowitness.  It's a very slick setup.  I'm very impressed with the troy rail.  It's free floating and completely drop in.  I could have my rifle back looking like a CAR 15 in 5 minutes.
