I am trying to decide between the 13" and 15" Troy VTAC TRX Extreme rail for my current build.  I have a 16" barrel and haven't been able to find many pictures with the two combinations.  I have seen a lot of 14.5" barrels with extension to over 16" but I plan on putting some sort of muzzle device on mine so the length will be longer than 16".

Thanks in advance

Here is my 13" on a 16" barrel. Keep in mind that the Surefire break is pretty long so it adds quite a bit to the over all length.

Thanks for the reply, that really looks great!  Would love to see a 15" to compare it with before I pull the trigger.  I can't decide if the extra 2 inches would look too long or not.

I purchased mine right before they offered the 15" but I think I made the right decision anyway. The 15" does look a bit odd to me but I also find it unnecessary on a carbine. With the 13", I find that I have more than enough room to grab at the front and if I want to put iron sights on it gives a more than adequate sight radius. Also, the less weight the better.

Look at the Troy Alpha rail. Much better attachment method than the VTAC/TRX system.

Just put together a 15" on a 16" barrel for a friend.  It comes within about 3/8ths of an inch from the shoulder on the muzzle (the part just after the threads).  Your flash suppressor or brake will basically start about 3/8th's of an inch after the rail ends.

It looks really nice, handles great.  I personally have a 13 on my 16" and a 15 on my 18 and prefer those lengths for the respective barrels, but there is nothing wrong with putting a 15 on a 16.

There is now a VTAC version of the alpha just to avoid confusion.

There are "Troy" and "VTAC" versions of both the old extreme lockup method, and the new alpha lockup method.

The Alpha rail has a better attachment? It looks like the first extreme model had a nice looking clamp. The newer alpha rails have 3 screws, kind of like the JP rails that had 6. Those 6 little screws were a pain. If I replace it, you're saying I should go for the Alpha rail version?

No helicoils to pull out on the Alpha. Those three screws thread into steel inserts that clamp inside the stock barrel nut. Very simple, yet, effective way to attach a rail.

The JP rail had 6. I'm not really sure if they screwed into steel inserts, but they stripped easily. It wasn't installed properly the first time and I had it worked on, the 6 screws had to be replaced...It has been fine since then, but looking at the Alpha rail I thought of that.

A custom build just finished with the 15" VTac. The huge sight radius is like cheating. The rifle is very accurate with irons. The extra length will leave comfortable room for a bipod and provides for a long grip for my monkey arms.

I just mocked mine up to see if it cleared the shaved FSB.

Any advice on where I should mount this-

to attach a bipod? I also want to put attach a section of rail for my AFG. Which rail piece should I use, the biggest one?

You are correct, I guess it's pretty hard to visualize slots, in place of holes, when determining what kind of look you are going for.
