Beautiful family ya got there. Upper on the top is kinda the direction my build is going with the warcomp.

ETA: I'm sure this has been asked before but can someone re-elaborate on what Eotech models are acceptable/seen in the wild?

Not intentional to be "clone correct" at all but it just kind of worked out this way. So how clone correct did I get? This was more or less a spare parts rifle and I stumbled across a great deal on a 14.5 upper. It's a SBR'd Colt lower too so that's pretty neat I guess

Beside the grip, end plate, and selector you did good for a 1.5

Anyone else notice Colt side swivel sling mounts on backwards lately?

And yes, it's a Thorntail. Probably not clone correct I assume

Indeed.

I've given up on clone correctness and am just looking to finish a solid M4. I am looking at the Throrntail mount also, I just haven't decided between the regular or the shorter sbr version.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm a fan of the Thorntail but depending on if you're running a tape switch or some sort of LAM, I'd highly suggest checking out the Arisaka 1913 mount like below:

Tiny little thing, very stout, and awesome placement. But if you're going for a clicky tail cap activation like on my almost clone, then it's hard to beat the thorntail

Here is my semi-clone of a SOPMOD Block 1.  Not a "true" clone since I am running the 16.1" barrel and using an Aimpoint PRO in place of the Comp M2 (pretty much the same sight though) however I replaced the mount with an Aimpoint QRP.  The rifle is a Colt LE6920 M4 Carbine.  All the other accessories are as correct as I could find and everything is new, or un-issued or very lightly used.  About the only possibly used parts are one of the KAC rail covers and the KAC forward grip.  I was able to source almost every accessory off eBay except the KAC RAS M4 from Charlies Custom Clones and the Vickers sling from Blue Force Gear.  Most parts were new in the bag or box, except the KAC rail covers and handle which came with the pouch and probably were former military, who knows.  I was surprised to be able to find so many of the parts relatively easy and still new.  I really like the Surefire M951 KIT02 light and someday I will probably upgrade the bulb to a Malkoff, but it's as issued right now.  It came sealed in the bag with manual and spare bulb.  I didn't even know what a clone or Block rifle was until a few months ago from this and a few other threads.  Not planning to do anything else as this rifle will be used for home defense and in our vehicle when on trips.  I primarily wanted proven military grade, USA made components and rifle for strength and reliability, the clone part is just an added benefit.  Plan to fire it in the very near future to get it dialed in.

I will be adding a tourniquet and holder to the buttstock soon though.

Same rifle as above but I swapped out the 14.5 barrel for a cut down 10.3 with a .070 gas port. Didn't plan on it but I've always wanted to try one of these out so when one became available I just jumped on it!

Scored a Surefire 620 with factory QD Mount and have an RCO coming. It went from Block I to a clone of my favorite issues rifle. Set up an OP on my roof and point lasers at farmers when I get bored and it will be like Afghanistan

Maybe set up a burn out, get my kids to try and sell me $5 carton of Pine Lights, bury some IEDs and poo in some wag bags and I will be in business

You guys inspired me to finish my sopmod block 2 build.  Colt parts in all major areas, PSA M4a1 receiver, taupe grip, b5 coyote stock.  Should be a looker... even went for the 4 pos buffer tube.  Cant wait!

I was never issued a QD, but for a Blk 1, LaRue was around during that time. It doesn’t matter though. I am staying with factory mount

I finally made it to Lowe’s and got some Krylon OD spray paint. The Rustoleum sucks balls and it off in color and rubs off easily. Krylon is on point.

I have painted a lot of rifles, Cerakote and rattle can. I think Krylon is hands down better than Rustoleum. Applies better and adherence is better. My heat gun died, so I will see how it cures over time. All I did is paint all the plastic parts, mag and sling swivel. Let it sit a day or two and see how it looks. I am on a big OD kick lately

OD looks badass but is near useless up here, unless I go shoot in southern IA with the melon growers.   All sandy soil there.

I've been spraying my version of a woodland pattern, works for me and I like it. (Rustoleum).

Is paint adherence that important on a clone?  The originals have rattle can paint jobs with no surface prep/degrease.

I don't even care about touch-ups.  I'm not throwing mine down the driveway or anything like that to artificially distress it, but these things look better with real wear.

Wanna know a quick and easy way to keep the paint out of mags when you're spraying?  Slip an old sock down a couple of inches over the top before you paint.  Keeps it out of the guts and from gumming up the magwell if clearance is tight.
