Anyone own one? Is it as good as it sounds?

Here is the link...

I don't know, but if its Larue, its gonna be awesome. Not doubting the Spike's stuff, as I've heard nothing but good things about them, but if you are looking for the best, get the Larue.

Mine arrived a few days ago.

Fit, and finish are top shelf. And, from what I understand accuracy is outstanding.

I'll get some trigger time in a couple of days and wring out the 16.

16” Stainless 1/8 polygonal rifling, med. contour barrel
13.2” handguard
Bushmaster Lower with RRA NM trigger
Magpul MIAD grip
Magpul CTR stock
Troy BUIS
ACOG TA31RCO

The LaRue ACOG mounts are on the way.

An article on the LaRue SSS appears in the Oct. 2007 issue of Special Weapons for Military and Police.

How long did the Larue upper take to arrive once you ordered it.

It needs more buzz words in its name before I'd consider one.

I placed the order with LaRue on a Sunday morning, and the rifle arrived Thursday: a very quick delivery.

ETA: Short AAR

Went out to the range today with the LaRue for initial firing, and was very satisfied with performance.

Ammo: Privi 75gr.
Target range: 110y
Accuracy: sub MOA 5 shot groups fired from bench off front sandbag rest.

My partner was firing a 16" 1/7 Noveske, and the 16" 1/8 LaRue performed on par with the faster twist rifle.

Great product, fast shipping, extremely accurate, a free hat and dillo included: I am pleased with my purchase.

ETA II: One additional thought. This is not an inexpensive product, and the idiom of "buy once cry once" comes to mind. In my opinion, the LaRue is worth the expenditure. Throughout the years I've owned Colts, Bushmasters, and S&W's - and although these are fine rifles, the quality of construction, attention to detail, and accuracy of the LaRue is clearly superior to any AR I've previously owned.

Larue,

My Upper is in transit. I recevied the UPS tracking number yesterday. I bought the 16 with 13.2 handgards on Sunday. I hope it will work on my S&W MP15

I think I should get a discount.  I posted info about the larue Quad on another thread and half of ar15.com members just bought one including myself.

I hope I get a hat.

The LaRue is indeed a "drop in" unit. I first mounted it on a S&W MP15A lower prior to finally deciding to place it atop a Bushmaster due to the Bushy having a better quality TG.

Sounds like you ordered the same one I purchased.

I think you're going to really like the LaRue. I have several AR's, and although I've only had the SSS a short time, already it's become my favorite.

Enjoy!

Trigger group.

Both the MP and Bushmaster have RRA NM triggers installed, and the Bushy's was just a bit smoother.

LaRue shipped the upper wrapped in packing paper, inside a hard cardboard tube, inside another well taped box. Absolutely bombproof packaging.

Here's mine finished the build a while back.  Just added a TA31F ACOG.  Haven't had a chance to get to the range and really test it out yet (with the optic).  With my old eyes and iron sights...it shows very good promise.  I can't wait to test it with the ACOG.

It came packed as mentioned before...had padded end caps, wrapped in paper and put into hard cardboard tube, then packed very well in a another box.

Outstanding customer service!!!  I have a (LaRue) mounts for the ACOG and my SureFire light on their way...should be here tomorrow!

KrazyBlade-

Very nice kit. I like the "furniture".

Tell me about the sling mount you've attached to the front rail. A LaRue Tactical Swivel attachment, perhaps?

It's the Viking Tactical/LaRue sling that LaRue has on his site.  It comes with the swivels pre-attached.  Very nice unit!

"Was one of the shipped mine?"

Not yet but I like the reviews and love the look and functionality. Probably gonna be about a month when I find out what kind of equipment I will be issued....Then go from there. I don't know if I will build off my lower or "theirs".

We shall see but thanks to everyone for the info.

sounds great

FYI, I picked up a operator barreled (1/7 twist, 16" mid length) upper from Denny for $100 cheaper and that's with a rail mounted front flip sight (pri).

LaRue makes good stuff, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

so is that actually a 11.5" barrel with a 11.0 rail? would a 12.0 fit on it without tucking in the flashhider? I noticed on the website the guy who tested them said it came in 11.5" but not 12" but it lists it as a 12" as an option to buy. Is that overall?

Which Handguard option on the 12" SSS accommodates the SureFire FA556K suppressor best (w the MB556K comp)?

The article linked of your www, indicated that you had a special set-up.

The barrel is 12.0", not counting the flash-hider.

At one time, we had an 11.5" version, but have recently settled on 12.0", 16" 18" & 20" lengths.

so is the rail shown a 12.0 also? The reason I ask is another guy posted pictures of his and he said he had a 11.0 rail and it was similar looking to the one you posted.

In fact, I'm waiting on a MB556K for the setup shown above (12.0" barrel and 11.0" rail).

The FA556K with the standard adapter works fine too. There's about 3/8" clearance with the suppressor installed.

Mark

Thanks Mark, just a lot of $ want to make sure - esp. with the SureFire barrrel overlap and all.  Which handgard is that one (7,10,11"?  Will the Gooseneck work in this set-up with SF can as picture on your site (this looks to be a Gemtech Halo):

Do you guys sells the SF Cans - yet?  I'm 1/2 joking beacuse I know the red tape required.  I'd sure prefer to send my hard earned $'s your way instead of elsewhere - do I smell an NFA package or two in the future :-)

the photo shows a 12.0 Barrel, with an 11.0 handguard. A 12.0 Handguard would cover about half the flash hider.

The FA556K doesn't overlap the barrel at all...you can still see the adapter and washer with the suppressor installed. The FA556AR slides over the barrel.

The suppressor in th picture is a Gemtech M496D. Because of the Bi-lock mount, it works beautifully under the 11.0 Gooseneck, with a 10.5 barrel. The ratcheting system on the FA556K suppressor engages at the top...unfortunately, a gooseneck would get in the way.

Thats what I needed. Looks like Ill probably order a 11.0 rail. Is it wrong that I want to order rails just so I get a chance at a free tan hat?

I own a "few" uppers, and the LaRue Quad-S is one of the nicest shooting, accurate, and beautiful upper receivers I own. For what you are getting, the price is extremely reasonable, and the service you will receive is second to none.
