Anyone using this combo? I presume a.308 rifle spring should work, will the .308 rifle buffer work also or carbine buffer?

A standard AR15 carbine length buffer is supposed to work with the A5 on a .308, but you will want more weight generally, like an H3 or even more.

Only problem is, receiver sets and BCGs are not made by the same companies on many builds, so guys see impact of the carrier rails on the lower receiver around the threads for the extension tube.

You can mitigate this with a quarter or washer in the end of the tube, but I personally don't like those kinds of solutions.

I'm using this combo on an 18" barrel with a rifle length gas system.  I have a carbine buffer from heavy buffers that weighs like 6.8 ounces I think.  The buffer length is the one that is used for an AR15 not the shorter 308 carbine version.  I also use a Springco orange spring with an adjustable gas block but I should just take it off because the ejection pattern is right where you need it and recoil is fine.

I'm using an A5 tube so I could use carbine buffers I already had instead of the obscene prices for the mini buffers.  Works well with the Sprinco red spring and H3 I bought.

Thanks, I was thinking of trying out the new UBR with A5 ext. I'm using an adjustable gas block, so I probably don't have to worry too much about the buffer weight.

Not gonna work.

The UBR requires a different extension tube that doesn't have the channel on it for standard carbine stocks.

They originally used an entry tube, which is like a rifle tube, but carbine-length.

The Gen 2 UPBR uses an A5 length tube:

Just as a quick refresher: what is the difference between standard carbine  length  and A5 length?
