Guys trying to figure out if this upper I got in trade for some work is a 733 or ?

I also got the coated metal stock with the  upper.
I know the moderator is not correct and is an aftermarket piece. But the rest from my research seems to be close to a real 733 upper.

It's not factory, that is a replacement receiver

Ok
Someone just built one very close to original then? Guess I'll just shoot the heck out of it.

^^^^^That's what I'd do.  I think it looks great!

Nice early chrome bore barrel. I agree - build it the way you want.

that's not an early barrel.  733's were marked that way.  It's late 80's vintage (R1 forge code FSB gives it away)

Ok so the barrel, and fsb are correct for a 733, glad to know I didn't completly mis read the sticky. Only the upper reciever is incorrect?

and the slip ring, and the crush washer, and the moderator....it's closer to a 629 with a replacement receiver and barrel that needs a delta, and a grenade ring

I think 733s had a brass bump.

yes, that and the moderator is why I said it's closer to a 629 than a 733

OP if you want to build a 733 from what you have now, you're basically starting with just the barrel and HG's and replacing everything else

from the carbine guide:

629
USGI XM177E2, commonly referred to as a “CAR-15” or “Commando” 1967-1970, these carbine are US PROP marked found in the 900,000-909,999 serial number range, and roll marked XM177E2. After US military production ceased in 1970 Colt continued to manufacture an export version of this Carbine as the Model 639:

733
Commonly referred to as a "Commando", 8 million serial number range 1984-1993?:

^^^  What he said.

You got a swell start on an XM177E.  I would not worry about the upper being a Martin Marrietta replacement.  YMMV

Here is a factory Colt 733 without the bump.

(from a 1985 Colt Catalog)

Doesn't matter though, the LM forge code is a USGI replacement (spare parts contract).  A CH forge code would be correct for a non-bump 733 as shown in the catalog.

Thank you guys for all the Help.
I think I am going to get a new more correct moderator, correct FA, and a angled HG ring, and make it more 629 correct. You guys are a great help; can't believe I missed all the cues you guys saw, I even read the sticky before posting.

I've always liked 733's.  My replica:

ETA: This is a combination not found in nature.  There were 733's with Gen II stocks, and with A2 lowers, but not at the same time.  The ones with A2 lowers had fiberlite stocks.
