I'm not interested in paying an arm and a leg for a scope older than I am. I like modern glass and modern quality control. That said, what are authenticity nuts parking on top of their retro M16's? Is there a modern scope out there that comes close in look and feel to the old Colt 3x?

Colt scope, mostly.

I put a leapers 4x on the rifle I gave my dad. It had a BDC and lighted reticle. I did not use it, but he hasn't complained about it.

I went with a Colt scope for a 607.

...A Delft, of course.

like the reasons you pointed out, the people that have retro scopes do so more for authenticity than for form or function.  you can still find colt 3x and 4x ones for under $300.  but if you wanted one for looks, ncstar and other chinese ones that were made in the 80s for under $75 pretty often.

Check out used Beeman short scopes. They pop up from time to time on ebay or the EE and have really great optics, adjustable parallax and different features. They are about the same price range as the colt scopes and look sort of retro. They are from the 70's i think?  Very sturdy, made for hard recoiling spring air guns.

I bought three of these NcStar scopes on Amazon for under $30ea. They have a lifetime guarantee, work great and NcStar has excellent service.

$250+.  the later painted colt 3x20 and 4x20 are more common and cheaper.  the engraved japanese are a little harder to find with the engraved made in the USA ones the rarer ones.
