I don't think it classifies as a "build" being Sig Sauer built it...but it is a VERY nice, heavily modified 516. Nice Set-up...I've been reading some really good stuff lately regarding the "516" & "716". Got to put my hands on both a few days ago at a local gun shop...real nice.

Oh sorry haha I forgot about the trigger its a Geissele super dynamic combat. I absolutely Love this rifle, there is actually nothing I can say that can describe it. As a Marine I shoot an M16A4 at work and it shows just how behind in design the M16 really is. I notice a lot of people saying some bad things about the 516, but to me it’s a phenomenal rifle I would not hesitate to recommend it to a person interested in a piston rifle. It has an amazing price point and allows a person to still have the money to buy some upgrades, I just broke $2800 for this build.

I love my 516! I got the FDE cerakoted one and its awesome. Looking at triggers and muzzle devices currently.

The Geissele super dynamic combat is a sexy trigger, I love the battlecomp, it negates so much of the muzzle rise not to mention it scares people at the range, just the sheer pressure that shoots out the sides scares the people around you, its good to see more Sig owners!! You know we should start a Sig Fanboys thread! Maybe raise some awareness for this awesome rifle!

Looks good Knives. I've been a great fan of the 516 from the start, I had one of the first batch on the market with the recalled BCG, so I took a big risk before there was much out there on it. It's been flawless from the day I first shot it. If the SHTF and I had to grab one gun of mine, it would be my Sig.

Here's a little love for the Gen 1 516 - never had a bit of trouble with this gun and it's only shot junk steel case since birth.

Theres really no reason to use a cheek riser on a standard AR. They're much more useful on rigs with raised top rails and/or large scopes with raised rings. |

I also have a new Sig 516 GENII, put a bipod grip and a 1.5 X 4 leupold scope on it. I think it is a fine rifle and am overall very happy with it. The trigger is not a dual stage. I was supprised that at this price point a dual stage was not standard. Hoping it will break in better but will likely upgrade either springs or complete trigger. I like the pushrod system alot.
Have put 500 rnds of brass 223 pmc 55 fmj through it without a single issue. It also likes federal ammo. Picked up 100 rnds of 223 Tulammo 55 fmj to see how it would handle steel. Very dis-appointing. On the first 30 rnds, every other round failed to feed from the Pmag and I had three failures to eject. It looks like some rounds simply did not move up in the mag to get picked up by the bolt. Pmags are supposed to be the best. Brought the rest of the ammo home, cleaned the rifle and tried the steel again on another trip to the range. Slightly better but still 30% failure to feed. Getting through those 100 rnds was painfull. Gas valve was set to normal. Some owners report their sigs spit steel rnds effortlessly, others say tulammo is crap and under powered to reliably cycle the action. Since tulammo has a muzzle velocity of 3241, I fail to see why it would have trouble cycling. Despite the feeding isues, I found the tulammo to be fairly accurate and it would otherwise make a decent practice round. I may try another brand of steel cased but may have to stick to brass. Anyone else care to comment on how your sig 516 handles steel? |

I ran 180 rounds of 55gr TulAmmo through mine yesterday in about an hour and it was the most fun I've ever had. First time running steel and I was grinning ear to ear while thinking about the cost savings. Everything about my 516 (gen 1) is smooth and it just gets more slick each time I hit the range. It is probably worth noting that when I purchased the gun, I completely de-greased it and drowned it in Froglube. I have heated all surfaces three times and re-applied copious amounts of the minty fresh green stuff. I would say the metal is "seasoned" now and carbon just doesn't stick to it anywhere except around the piston valve. I honestly am thinking about selling all of my DI guns and going full piston from here on out. The time saved cleaning alone is worth it to me.

Strap147 your post suggests not enough gas so change the gas setting and you should be fine with Tula
Please note, because the gas is more contained with a piston (closed gas system compared to DI) there is more pressure on the bolt face. because steel cases do not expand and seal the chamber as well as brass carbon build up in the chamber is more likely than a DI gun. If you run 500-1,000 steel cases through a piston you may find the chamber carbonized enough that brass no longer works, gets stuck. Easy solution: When using steel make sure you clean that chamber more often and more carefully meaning done right steel should be fine. 3240FPS Tula, I seriously doubt that. the stuff is way under powered. Regarding the tulammo velocity, I can only go by their published specs as I have no means to verify independantly. Other sig users report no problems with tula. While Sig has fast turn around for service they also specifically state to not use steel cased ammo so I am not sure asking them to do something about how steel shoots will go very far
I suggest you try the various "Bear" steel or the WPA Wold being it is made by Barnaul the best of the Russian ammo makers. Because I reload it is actually cheaper for me to shoot brass but I do run steel to know what works and Tula has been fine in my ARs Wulfmann |

No problems with the Herters/Tula here, Gen1 516. At first I was hesitant to run it, but at 5 bucks a box, I bought a box to see what happens. Cycled and shot fine, but it's definitly not high power ammo. Great for plinking around though and I don't cringe after every empty mag about the price. So far after about 1.5k rounds of ammo through it, I haven't had one failure yet. Strangely enough you'd think I'd hit a bad primer or something by now, even if the gun was perfect, I love my 516

I shoot various Russian just to know what will (or will not) work and I could be wrong but the Bears; are they not made by Barnaul?? So, except for some testing I do not shoot steel as a rule. I can reload better than most factory for much less than steel. I might look at steel different if I did not reload So I am is correct that the Bears are Barnaul then it backs up my claim although it is just me repeating what others who know more say regarding Barnaul being the best Rusky ammo maker Wulfmann |

Haha actually I just sent mine to a friend to get it cerakoted. The barrel is ridiculous It has a smaller barrel nut, and it's slathered in red Loctite so it's no easy task. Ill let you know when the project is done.
