I know there will be some that claim this is absolutely just WRONG but I thought I’d throw it up here just to see what the reaction is.  Personally I think this just awesome but I don’t quite know why.  It’s only been a few hours.  I do have a flat-top Bushmaster M4 with EOTECH decked out the right way and ready for . . . whatever . . . but I also had another M4 I built from parts with a buddy’s help.  It’s a good and accurate rifle but not much special about it.  Flat-top with standard parts and an inexpensive red-dot.  I was thinking about off’ing it and getting into an AK platform just to diversify and then I came across this guy selling all variety of wood and laminated stocks at the gun show in Smyrna, TN this weekend.

It was a pretty blah show.  Very little for M1Carbines, Garands or M1As (my other rifles).  I walked by this guy’s table several times and I just couldn’t help from being enamored.  He makes and sells these in many different flavors and I was gonna wait until he had more of a lower Service Grade less finished walnut stock for less money.  Says it would be more like the wood on the Garand/M1A.  But I just couldn’t help myself.  I snatched this fancy dark, WELL rubbed, wavy Walnut stock set after my 5th time by his table and put it together this morning.

Now I might have concerns about cooking the hand guards if I throw a bunch of lead down the range at one time but I’ve sizzled my Garand a couple times and it survived.  Just keep oiling the wood I guess and it’ll be fine.

I am new to the forum (well, all forums) so I don't know how upload a pic onto this post as I've seen other folks do but if anyone wants to help me out with instructions that would be great.  I don't have a URL website to link.

Hope ya don't mind Kmad, but I'm going to post up your source for the wood.

Dan Conrad (same source as the linked thread)  http://www.ar15woodstocks.com/

edit2:  Can you give us an idea of the price on the walnut stocks since the webpage says price on request?  Round number will work, just for an idea.  Thanks.

I've seen that old Springfield Armory pic (and similar) before.  Honestly I like Dan Konrad's look with M4ish carbine hand guards better.  He did say he would have a less finished lower grade dark walnut stock set (more like a Garand or the SA shown above) for $189 and I was gonna wait for that.  But since it was such a crumby gun show last weekend I had the money burning a hole in my pocket I just went for it.  The set shown was $289 and is in fact the same actual set shown on the front page of his website (2nd pic down).

Honestly the pics don’t do it justice.  Its not laminate and there’s a really really nice curly wave throughout all three parts that almost seem to match each other.  He says he makes his own blend of carnuba, tongue, BLSO. . . etc . . . that he rubs in a bit every day.  Then rubs it down with Steel wool and rubs his oil mix again and on and on day after day.  Woodworking patience.  I don’t have it.  This set is literally furniture grade and I will definitely fire this girl.  I may put a match barrel on it and call it my exhibition piece for careful target shooting.  Otherwise its almost is worthy of going over the mantle under dad’s Parker.
