does anyone make an 1911 style grip for an AR-15, or would that be a custom piece?

There is an adapter you can get to use 1911 grips

The only option I am aware of in aluminum is the CCI Phantom paintball gun 45 grip adapter.

(A lot if not most of the older markers especially pump guns used A-2 style grips.)

Just look under acessories on the Phantom Online site.

You will have to modify it to retain your selector spring though as it does not have

the hole and the material in that area is not thick enough to be drilled to accept it.

I went with the Pearce Grip you linked to,  I've had it on my main AR for around 8 years.

It is durable enough and fills the hand better IMO.

The Pearce 1911 pistol grip is pretty beefy, nice if you have big hands. If you like the fit of a .45 auto you'll like this grip. the grip slab on the the selector side will have to be cleared at the top to allow selector swing. The adapter is hard plastic or composite material, nice and sturdy.

i may end up going with that if i can't get one made of metal, there are already two other plastic parts on the gun, and i would prefer there to be only 1.

i am just not a big fan of plastic on guns.

I don't have particularly beefy hands, so I take the rubber wrap-around anti-slip stuff off of it, until it's about the same as a 1911.

And I left both of them on the past two AR's I sold to friends, so right now I don't have any

Out all my A1, A2, Hogue and Lone Star AR pistol grips, I don't remember any of them being metal.

I not sure what would motivate your obsession.

it is not really an obsession, i just am not a fan of a lot of plastic on my guns.

And i remember my dad saying "metal is for guns, plastic is for toys"  a lot when i was a kid.

A metal pistol grip, a metal buttstock and metal handguards. Sounds like a pretty heavy gun.

May I suggest a little research about the original Stoner AR-15. The plastic deer rifle.

The big joke about the M-16 was that it had so much plastic and Aluminum. Hell, even the Mattel toy company made full auto M-16s during the Veitnam war.

I guess a Glock isn't a lethal weapon.

it already has the aluminum handguards, next step is the aluminum buttstock, which will be  added shortly and yes, it is a heavy little beast, but i am ok with that.
the three plastic pieces on it now are the stock, the grip and the foregrip that holds a spare magazine.

and i won't even touch the glock comment, as i have almost been kicked out already for giving my honest opinion of those pistols.

No, they didn't.  That myth has been debunked.  At no time did Mattel ever make any M16s or parts for M16s.

Two examples of full auto A1 M-16s. Looks authentic to me.
