Putting a carry handle on my next assembly and as I peruse what's out there...holy hell.  Have prices jumped?  Are carry handles back in style now?
I could have sworn that a few years ago carry handles were going for ~$30, but now I see them starting at double that or more.  Am I mis-remembering?  PSA, of all places, has one for 79.99.

What's everyone using for a brand of carry handle and where are you getting them?  I don't need it to be Gucci or rare vintage, just a simple A2 that isn't an airsoft job.

Went through the same provess you are now...

Supply and demand. You have to pay real close attention with what to look for as far as genuine Colt/FN/etc (staked screws with an X, forge marks, etc.), but watching like a hawk I've had good luck on eBay. Scored two genuine beat up colt handles for $50 a few months ago. Sometimes EE you get lucky, but it seems carry handles have become popular.

Maybe the ones I was seeing before were low quality and I didn't know it, or maybe it was longer ago than I thought...  Sure seemed like people couldn't give them away for a while there though.

I suppose cutting a carry handle wasn't a thing back then either.

I think a bigger factor is that more and more factory rifles are coming with some sort of folding sight rather than the carry handle, so there aren't nearly as many take offs being sold, which has significantly reduced supply while demand has remained steady.
New quality ones have retailed from $80-120 for years.

Not mine and not $30,  $40 or $50 but for $70 there was a new Colt take off posted up yesterday:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_159/1547342_COLT_DETACHABLE_CARRY_HANDLE.html

OP is correct, a few months ago, the Colt handles were $50, not $70.

A carry handle that attaches to standard rail, also comes with a standard rail to attach to the top of the carry handle.......sign me up for that attachment to the attachment strategy

Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one. In fact, it actually makes me want to buy three, just so I can stack them all on one rifle and take a picture of it.

I had the same issue finding a quality Milspec carry handle and to get close the price where my wallet wanted to be I ended up with a LOT of 11.
4 of them were Colt stamp forging and the rest (AA) Advanced Armament stamp forging made for Colt.
I used a couple, sent a couple to my Father, sold off a couple and still have a couple.

I (sold C for $55 shipped) still have A & B, both are ( AA)
How do these compare in condition to the ones you bought?

When they look like that, all you have to do is scrub them with gun cleaner and oil them like you should your rifle.  They usually wind up looking brand new with just some missing paint spots on the knobs.

I bought the last one from this lot.  Had a bunch of paint on it but cleaned up nice with Goof-Off and CLP. A-8 forge mark.

The PSA ones that they say are USA made with the square forge mark were $50 non-blem in the Easter sale.  Maybe Memorial Day...

LOL for like 25$ or so I picked up what is called a "Gen2" carry handle. For now it is just there to give a different look. Not sure if its going to stay or not. Could just end up in the spare parts bin. For sure gets looks and questions at the range. If I keep it, I will put a micro style red dot on it.

Its funny how a nice top quality removable carry handle goes for 80$-120$ when the same A2 style rear sight (without the carry handle extra metal) goes for 25$ online

It looks like you have it mounted backwards? The lower pic shows it has a built in buis, but you have it turned around and then have a separate buis (chopped carry handle?) Behind it.

I think we have passed the tipping point.
New handles are comparable to used handles.
CDDN carry handle
Aero P carry handle

I bought a take off a few weeks ago and sent it back.. It had been repainted and make to look better than it was.
I personally, chose the Aero,(zero issues)  but the CDNN looks very nice.

That $25 sight is cheap Chinese junk.  The LMT original is way more than $25.

Carry handles are only up to $125 if you don't shop around.  At the same time, I have seen cheap junk carry handles as well.  I saw one at the range where the cross bolts were to deep into the body.  No matter how hard you tightened both knobs down, the carry handle would slide forward under recoil.  The only thing that kept it from coming off the rifle is the fact that the handguard acted as a forward stop.
