Wow! How did you change the rear trunnion to a side folder? Or is that a drop-in? I can't tell. Looks great though.

It's a legit Russian folder.  Old trunnion was removed and the receiver modified for the sidefolder trunnion and re-riveted into place. PITA

Calls for front sight block replacement with AK-74 muzzle break/FSB assembly.
Or you might consider threading your barrel to AR' 1/2-28 and opening a door to a whoop-@$$ number of quality MB/compensator.
AK-74 would keep the classy lines, and Miculek, Rainier or Battlecomp would bring insanely effective control over the muzzle rise and recoil.

This is my 7.62x39 Saiga. It's set up for hog hunting. I'm using a Leupold VXR-Hog scope on it. The Stock is a Magpul MOE using a CSS M4 style tube adapter.

This is a Definitive Arms .223 Saiga conversion. I changed the furniture on it. I put on a Bonesteel Arms left folding stock, a SAW type grip, and a Tapco Intrafuse front hand guard (I wasn't looking for something fancy, just something to add a rail).

I like the .223, how do like the Bonesteel stock, after seeing yours I'm thinking about picking one up.

I like it. It's well made and solid. I wanted a left folder so the rifle can be fired in the folded position with all the controls accessible. It clears the side mounted rail when folded but won't fold flat if a scope mount is on the rail. I'm thinking of adding a TWS rail on top to eliminate that problem. I got the sling swivel added for the extra $5. Well worth it.

Thanks man. Went with an AK74 style brake.  Kept the Saiga front sight, cut the sleeve off, and threaded the barrel 14:1 LH .  Will give it a try tomorrow.

Almost finished with my S308, just waiting on tools to thread barrel. I used a Magpul ACS stock and a MOE 870 handguard.

This rig has done pretty well for me so far.  It has a PWS comp, ACE stock, MI long rail, Bushnell TR25, and USPalm grip.  I am hoping to get an email here soon so I can send her off to definitive arms for some awesome magwell awesomeness!!  It also has the bolt hold open just above the trigger finger, which works well, but honestly only gets used during target breaks at the range.

Awesome. I really like the 16' with that Magpul forend. How did you get that on there?

I have had great luck with those Uinta magazines. How do you like them?

Dig the Russian optics, very fitting. Nice job!

Hilljack, what tool/method did you use to cut off the sleeve?

Damnit, failed to own page 12.
Link Posted: 4/23/2013 7:07:02 PM EDT
[#27]
Hack saw. If you look at the sleeve, near the sight base, there is a ridge. Use that as a guide and cut around the sleeve a little at a time.

Threaded all the way to the sight.

You have to use a muzzle device that is threaded deep enough to screw all the way to the sight.

I haven't seen much info on that on muzzle devices I've looked at.  Would you care to share your short list?

What was your starting platform and what modifications and items did you use? I really like your job you did and even the use of the surefire as my intentions are to try and suppress my own saiga.

What kind of forearm is that on that Komifornistan Saiga? That looks like something I'd like to use. Does it attach similarly to the stock forearm?

Midwest Industries.  Clamps to barrel. Gonna part it out (with standard top cover) after test firing.

It's a collaboration between Midwest and US Palm, although US Palm doesn't seem to have it on their site anymore, so I'm not sure what that means. It has mounting points for several optics. I have one to mount a Trijicon RMR on my AK-74 from a few pages back.

I really like it. It mounts very securely on the gas tube and around the barrel. Lots of allen screws with locktite. Several thousand rounds later it shows no sign of loosening up.

hello everyone, i recently purchased a saiga 7.62x39 rifle, the stock and pistol grip was converted, however i wanted to get the front end converted too,
i thought about doing it myself but im not sure if i would screw up the rifle or not, i have no gun smithing experience
how much does it cost for just the front end, i don't feel like shipping it but i guess i can if i have to
how easy is it to do myself? i believe my saiga already has a threaded barrel so i would be removing the fsb and gas block then re installing the new ones, but would i need to refinish barrel? , i checked out some tutorials on youtube like http://www.youtube.com/12gaugetim

btw i live in eastern pa, so if anyone knows a place that does a good job on front end conversions that i can just drive to instead of shipping it to that would be awesome

thanks for the help

It's not too hard. I assume you want a traditional two-piece handguard. You'll need a two piece lower HG retaining bracket (factory ones go on before the FSB so you need the two piece unless you want to do a lot of gunsmithing), hand guards, and I think you need a new gas tube. It's been quite a while since I've converted one but that should at least get you going in the right direction. You can probably find a gas tube cheaper and maybe some different furniture depending on what you're going for.

[#46]
the front conversion isn't too hard. I use hand tools and can do one in about an hour. That's replacing the GB and FSB with Bulgarian 74 ones and adding the lower HG retainer. I would recommend you check the hometown forum for someone in your area who has done this before and can help you out.

thanks, what about refinishing, would i have to refinish the barrel? how hard is that? that and pinning the parts are really the only 2 parts im concerned about
Link Posted: 10/22/2013 4:11:17 PM EDT

refinish depends on the parts used. Most likely you will not need to refinish the barrel.
