What grips are those?  Does the 3" come in a steel or stainless frame?

I don’t want to like that…….

It’s basically a modern Smith model 12 with a 3 inch barrel.

Talked the father in law into a black taurus 3" when he thought he wanted a snub 357 to wear around the farm. He has huge mitts and I told him he would only shoot a couple 357 before swearing off it. He had a bunch of bass pro gift cards he needed to burn. I need to get over to his house and shoot it to see how it is. Was on my radar for a while as an upgrade carry gun to a j frame.

I have been considering one of those.  I had the 2" 856 UL until I let my dad have it.  It was surprisingly good.

S&W will make them if you've got enough money.

That's actually a brilliant idea. I wonder why Powers never did that? Same with single actions. People spend a ton of money replacing everything but the frame on Blackhawks.

Sigh.  I'm still waiting on my credit cards from Saturday to hit the bank so I can order for next week, no S&W parts in the cart.

figures that Ruger would finally make this just after I got a 9mm Service Six

Not quite 3", rather it's 2.75". My new to me 1982-vintage Speed Six from Robertson Trading Post via Gunbroker and my local FFL:

As-purchased it wore a set of ill-fitting Sile rubber combat grips that were meant for a Security or Service Six (square butt). After I ordered the gun I found a set of NOS Pachmayr Compacs for the Speed Six on eBay for under $20 shipped. They look and fell much better than the Siles.

The gun is really clean and appears to have hardly been used. The action is quite good for a Ruger so it may have been dry fired a bit. It should be a real nice gun for .38 Special.

I just held one of the 856 Executive models yesterday.  Was pretty impressed and am considering getting one.

Thanks. I've been wanting one for awhile now and it seemed like every time I was ready to buy one they weren't available. But, Ruger must have done another run of them around the beginning of the year and they started popping up in-stock so I had my local fun store grab one for me.

Just put a Pachmayr Diamond Pro grip on it. Definitely more hand filling but pretty tacky, so I'm not sure it would be the best choice for concealment.

What about a 3.5" Model 43 among a couple 3" guns?

Are you sure you didn't get a 5" and the 1st two inches just fell off?

Give it time I already had a sliver of metal pop out of the hand port on it

Added another 3" S&W to my collection this past weekend - S&W 29-4

Made in 1989, just a little over 2500 made.  It had all rubber Pachmayr grips from the factory - not the ones it has now.

Gotta admit, I've been tempted by those even though I have zero need for one.  Same thing with the Rossi RP63.

That's not fair...a 3" blued full lug and unfluted 44 Mag?  That's a grail gun for me.

A stainless steel, K-frame, .357 Magnum, with adjustable sights? Oh, yeah, a total piece of garbage.

I wouldn't buy one. I'd probably buy two: a 2" and a 4".

BK grip adaptors are a lot easier to find, and I like mine

I ordered something akin to both for my j frame just to give it a try

Really thinking about it on my 686 L frame. I havent quite figured out what I want to put on them.

The size of the stock hogues are really nice for the guns length. I might end up trying some panel and tyler t type grips out for the L frame too

Have you tried the compac pros? They're thinner with no backstrap coverage.

Robertson Trading Post are metal and cheap. Not sure how they compare to Tyler's, but they work for me.
