I can't think of any reason why not

The real question is... .460 Rowland?

I have two, 1917 Colt and 1917 Smith Brazilian.  They are neat.  The Colt is a chunky bastard, I think I have rifles that weigh less.  The Smith has been through the ringer, like most of the Brazilians, but it didn't cost too much.

In the IDPA crowd I hang out with there is a 625 that I think is on it's fifth owner.  Somebody buys it, runs it a few years, then moves it on to someone else.

I emailed them to ask, and got a quick response

"We get the question fairly often and It comes down to the inability to mitigate recoil.  Sure the modifications could be done easily enough, but these guns aren't designed around such a powerful round and they may not hold up.

Furthermore and with all due respect, it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to do that testing because it sort of defeats the purpose of the 460Rowland , which is having softer shooting .44 Magnum horsepower in a smaller frame and a higher capacity than 6.

How about .45 gap? Serious question

It'll run fine, same as shooting .40 S&W from a 10x25mm Norma revolver.

I might have some hard-cast lead with silver as one of the hardening components to the mix loaded into .45-70. Just in case. No one ever said how much, percentage-wise, the silver had to be.

I love those books, and Alpha in particular is awesome. Really makes me want a .45 revolver and the MHI stuff is what set me down my current path of researching the 325 series of revolvers.

Won't work in an amalgamation of lead and silver, just like silver nitrate doesn't work. The MCB with their sintered metal silver bullets or the MHI Pow'rBall slugs are the best option.

Ask me how I know

So I guess that brings me back to the idea of pouring molten silver into some Buffalo-Barnes wide-mouth HP bullets.

How do you know?

Anyone know how well the titanium cylinders hold up on the S&W revolvers? The only scandium gun I own is an 340M&P with a steel cylinder, and I always assumed the titanium cylinder would not do well over long round counts.

I have a 625-3 in 3 and 5 inch.

A stainless Ruger Bisley 45 Colt/ 45ACP  Convertible 5 1/2 inch.

I also picked up a Webley MK 1 that has been converted to 45ACP. I bought it many years ago. I even shot a few rounds through it. Used it for home defense for a while. Then I got educated on it.

I have a bunch of RP and Starline Auto Rim brass. I will load the Starline with BP or equivalent substitute for the Webley . I would love to get a manstopper mold and take a deer or hogs with it.

Anyone have experience with any BP subs in cartridges?

I'll use the RP brass for the 625's

I have a Cabelas 1873. Its has a flat Parkerizing type finish and a brass grip. Ugly is a good description. Thought about getting the cylinder cut for 45 auto rim since I have about 500 RP AR brass.

Not sure dimension wise if possible

I'm leery of mixing up 45 colt loads since I have Linebaugh and Bowen 5 shot 45 colt revolvers. Then again I could just get a round nose bullet since I dont use that in any heavy 45 Colt or 454 loads.

I like my custom shop 625.

Moon clips make a great deal of sense for both reloads and having a ready supply of range ammo ready to shoot.

I have four revolvers in .45 ACP. A Colt M1917, a S&W M1917, a Ruger New Model Vaquero, and a S&W Model 625. They're all a blast. I wrote about the 625 in an article for The Truth About Guns.

Absolutely correct.  You need a revolver w/ the capability of shooting any .45 GAP you come across.

I shot my 625 PC in a USPSA match yesterday. There were 3 stages where I touched 5 moon clips to get all the required shots (no extra).
I also have a 325PD but have yet to shoot it.

The only thing I don’t like about my smith and Wesson 325TR is the giant front sight, but that’s gonna get replaced with an appropriately sized fiber optic front bead soon.

Get the OG if you can (a 1917). This one is an early model with the grooved hammer and dished out (concave) grips. I had an opportunity to also buy a three digit serial Colt 1917 at the same time, but I have too many horror stories involving prewar Colt double actions. Once they go out of time, they are expensive to fix and the gunsmiths with the knowledge are mostly retired or have passed on.

I'm searching for a beater S&W 1917 to turn into a snub. Round butt the frame, 3" barrel, etc.

The 625 is not the most accurate but it most definitely is fun to shoot.
Very mild with reloads.

Pretty close to what I was thinking. Probably a black coated frame/barrel and NP3 cylinder, hammer, trigger, cylinder release.

Woo hoo.  I finally managed to find a 625 for a somewhat decent price.
I already managed to scored some needed items.  Next up are new grips, a nice holster and speed loader pouches.

Around 1994 I went to the Indy gun show with four friends on a Sunday and they all bought a 625 for $435 OTD, I decided to get a 686 instead for $360.  Monday one of the friends came to my office after his wife had found out that he got a consumer loan to buy the 625 and he had to sell it or risk a big domestic dispute. I got it from him and shot it for years in bowling pin competitions and in IDPA until the five inch barrels were no longer IDPA legal. I gave it to my son at that time. I must have sold about three hundred guns over the decades and given dozens to my kids but this is about the only gun I miss.

I sometimes borrow it from my son.

What are the shortest (lightest) .45 ACP cylinders made?  How short could you go, or is bullet jump a problem?

I was at my brother's place, drinking for the first time in a long time, and saw a nice 325 Thunder Ranch for sale with tons of accessories for a decent price. Had to have my brother talk me down from buying it. I really want the Night Guard model with the 2.75" barrel, but the Thunder Ranch was mighty tempting.

Is the CA Pit Bull still in production?
https://charterfirearms.com/products/74520-pitbull-45-acp-revolver

Weight of CA Pit Bull    5 shot .45 ACP 22 oz
Weight of S&W 325NG 6 shot .45 ACP 28 oz

Don't have either cylinders to measure or weigh.

winchester ranger 230gr +p works really well

so does 45SUPER with 230 speer gold dots at 1150fps

 sadly, I traded it for a 629

I bought a 44 magnum 29-2 intending to hunt deer with it, but have ended up getting into and enjoying ICORE competition instead, shooting 44 Russian. I have a strong preference for shooting bulky vintage blued N frames. My local match let's you shoot twice, and I'm strongly considering picking up a vintage model 25 in 45 ACP.

Other than maintenance issues, any reason why I should strongly consider a newer 625? Also, I'm curious if anyone has tried to use 44 magnum speed loaders with 45 auto rim. If I could use a model 25 with both moon clips and SL variant 44 magnum speed loaders, I could shoot one gun in two divisions. Then I could leave my model 29 zeroed for magnum ammo.

If I were trying speedloaders with a 625 and .45 AR, I'd try one for a 25-5 first.
