Anybody own a Larry Vickers 1911? I would love to see some pictures if anybody has access to one. I've come accross one of his full blown custom jobs for sale and it might be too good to pass up.  Last time I checked he had a ten year waiting list. Now that hes working for HK on their M4 project, who knows how long the wait will be. Thanks for any help.

Its suprisingly pedestrian looking.  Some novaks, beavertail, commander hammer, bar-sto and a match bushing, and all parkerized.   But its a shootin' SOB.

I didn't end up getting it, I wasn't quick enough and somebody else bought it.

They are nice, but they can't touch a Larry Vickers custom.

Ditto.  I have a friend that owns one of the Vicker's guns.  He used to shoot it in IDPA.  The first time I saw it, I couldn't understand what all the hype was about.....then he started shooting, and all became clear.

Agreed...

I used to have a bunch of pictures of Vickers work but somehow they have been lost. I’ll look a bit harder today to see if I can find them.

VA_Dinger – I think I know which gun you were looking into… I considered it myself but as I recall there was no Pony or at least SA on it so for me it was a no go. In all honesty, while there is no doubt Vickers builds a very fine gun, if I were a custom 1911 buyin’ kind of guy there are other makers who’s work is just as nice that I would also search out. Unless you absolutely have to have the name “Vickers” on the gun (which by the way is quite understandable) I wouldn’t stop with him only. Just my $0.02.

I agree with every thing you stated. Thier are plenty of great Custom 1911 builders available. I was just drawn to the Vickers build like a "moth to a flame" .  I will say that the pistol not starting out life as a Colt or Springfield did not bother me in the least. I know anything build by Larry is a work of art and the reliablity of his builds is never a question. I'll be the first to admitt that Larry being an ex-Delta Operator and the rumors that he builds their team 1911's was only dam reason I wanted the Vickers. What can I say? His pistols are dam cool!

I did find this picture on the net:

No not really,  I could not be happier with the performance and reliabilty of my Kimber. I liked the idea of the Vickers for the stated reasons, but I certianly do not need a full blown custom job. Small upgrades like a , ambi-safety, Ed Brown grip safety, and Dawson light rail is all I really need or want. I usually prefer to keep my 1911's with their stock parts,  internally at least.  Now a full blown custom Browning High Power from Novak is a different matter.

July/Aug 2001

Literally  19 pages of pics and info from Larry on building and running a combat 1911.

Thanks, I'm going to have to get my hands on that issue.

I think these articles changed my mind about wanting a full custom 1911. I called Mr. Vickers about two weeks ago and ordered one of his "signature" full house customs. Now I just have wait a few years.
