I sent my round 3 packet in at the start of Sept and had the gun in hand by October last year. |

Email on the 10th, number is 42664. The cell phone will be stuck to me like glue until I get the call.

I got my rgn, 44373 a few days ago. First cmp 1911 for me, and only my 3rd 1911 ever. Anyone know how many guns they process a week?
|

I also got an e-mail on Oct. 10, for Fourth round. My number is: 44846. I got a nice service grade Remington-Rand in Round 1. Any idea what number they are at now?

42069 got called today
@Vegas19D better keep your phone nearby and not on silent broski |

Well I got called, 42073. Had a choice of rack, field or service. Went with service.
|
|
|
I was 42069. I was called by Hope today. Chose field. I have two service grades already( my 1919 colt OG rebuild from round 1and a 1945 RR with numax slide that I got from gunbroker) so hope to get something “saltier.”

This was the number they called from in round 2. For those that need to know what number to look for when they call. |

256-770-4744 is what I got called from yesterday.
Mine shipped today |
|
|
|
I bought the high-grade and got a heavily re-parked colt with a crappy replacement slide and barrel. I was pretty pissed. The rear sight was pitted too.
A buddy ordered one for him and one for his wife, and both were way nicer than mine and had original parts. Even on Garands I don't get anything neat. This is why I don't buy lotto tickets. |

Got my service grade today. 42060. Colt frame with an Ithaca slide.

Gave it a quick look over and it’s not bad. Sent in my FOIA as well.

4216x, got called today.

I'm guessing 45724 means to not expect a call until well into 2024.

Returned their call this morning, they had all four grades available. Chose a Range grade, be interesting to see what I get.

The low demand gives me pause since my rationalization was always that I could easily sell it if I didn’t like it. Also I got an incredible gun in round 2 and I’m worried about being disappointed if I get a beat up mixmaster in round 4. |

Also I got an incredible gun in round 2 and I'm worried about being disappointed if I get a beat up mixmaster in round 4. Part of the "low demand" has always been people reluctant - for whatever reason - to 'jump through hoops' to buy from the CMP. Those with more experience can say further, but Garand limits haven't been as severe as the present 1911 limits for what? A couple of decades at least? Yet you can still flip a CMP Garand for a couple hundred bucks at least. And look to the M1 carbines to see what will happen when the CMP Garands finally dry up altogether. The other part of the low demand with the 1911s is people just go nuts (not in a good way) when a replacement slide shows up. A bunch of people don't seem to be able to bear the thought of buying a field or rack grade and finding those replacement slides on them. That you might indeed find hard to resell - for now. I'm thinking about trying to snag some of the 1911s with replacement slides when I can find them as received from the CMP. I'll bet they'll be cheap; I'll bet a bunch of them will get parted out as soon as they leave the CMP; I'll bet one of these days an honest Cold War 1911a1 with replacement slide is gonna be a rare bird. In any case, I'm going the exact opposite way. I'm feeling lucky this round. I missed the boat on the decommissioned M45s, so if it's available, I'm gonna roll the dice on a range grade this time and see what turns up. |

Some ebay and GB sellers have almost every part available except the frame and they get posted with in a day of every other part. Aka get one, tear it apart and list all the parts for sale over 24 hours. |

I sent mine in a week or so after they started accepting orders for a 4th round. Crickets. I'm hoping mine didn't get lost in the mail.
Fortunately I got in on the first round and got a nice colt/colt service grade. After seeing some of the range grades on the CMP forums I was kind of leaning that way. I'm hoping mine didn't get lost but have heard of some people not getting a rgn number and just getting a call. |

Mine came in on Friday. I chose another Service Grade and ended up with a mostly correct Oct/November '44 Colt save for the replacement barrel and grips.

View Quote For me is is partly the hoops you have to jump through, but that is maybe 25% of it. The other 75% is spending $1100-$1200 on a gun that is completely sight unseen. I am just not going to drop that kind of money on a gun I can not see and/or inspect before buying. I buy many used guns online, but at least on them I can get pictures and descriptions of what I am getting. I do not gamble. So I do not want to buy a gun that is a hodge podge of random parts that ends up being worth less than I paid for it. I bet that is what is happening with all the ones getting parted out. People Just hoping to recover at least some of their investment. Heck, maybe the parts are worth more than the complete gun, as you have rich collectors who will pay top dollar for that one part to make their gun "complete/correct". I have seen many times in the automotive and equipment world where parting something out is more profitable than selling it complete. |

I think it's highly unlikely that you would lose money. For Round 1 I got a Colt 6XX,XXX OG 1911 rebuild. I had a DCM Colt 1918 rebuild in the collection already. I wanted a 1911A1 for the collection (at that point there was no indication CMP would authorize a second chance for early purchasers). I looked for the cheapest, least sexy, likely CMP gun I could find on gunbroker. Came away with a 1945 Remington Rand with a Numax slide and replacement (1985) barrel. CMP confirmed that it sold as a service grade (1250.00) about 3 months before I picked it up. My cost? 1408.00. Even that plain jane piece brought 150.00 profit.
