So I just finished a month in Quantico doing basically a Marine Corps screener... I had a TON of 550 cord left over so I decided to try something out. Total cost- 4 bucks worth of cord and 1 hour.

This "sling" is pretty handy, cheap to make and simple to make and best yet it's made of 550 cord so for the SCAR's it doesn't scratch up the sling attachment points. You can make any combination of 550 chord you want. As you see my first pic is a bracelet w/ OD green and FDE mixed. The sling has as OD green core and black braid.

1- start with the desired length of cord loop, tie off with a simple knot. This is the "core."

*simple knot*

2- The length of braiding cord must be approximately 7 times the length in feet as the core length. ie- my sling is 4 feet long so my cord was approximately 28 feet. Find the middle of this length and place it underneath the core loop.

3- To start, make a "S" with one side of the braiding cord

4- Run the other side down into the bottom loop of the S, under the core, and up through the top side of the S

*tighten it down, not super tight, but taught*

5- See in the above picture how one side of the braid is going down and under the core? From that side, make an S shape, in this case it's a backward S, this will be the alternating pattern.

*It should look like this after that second run through*

6- Continue braid until you have about a 1 inch loop left, as shown in the first pic. Now tie off with a simple square knot the remaining cord, and melt it down with a lighter to secure the knot.  Using the side that is continuous and does not have a knot through it, run it through one of the sling attachment points.

7- Next run that loop through the eye of the knotted side

8- Run the knotted loop back through the continuous loop and you have a pretty secure lock.

Tadaaaaa!

You can also make attachments and turn it into a 2 point. Total time approx 1 hour for this long of a braid.

For bonus points, try making the braid and core out of one single strand of paracord. So taking your 28ft of braid and 4ft of core you would have one 32ft strand of uncut paracord. Of course it'll only be one color, but it would make a great way to carry some paracord for survival. You can get camo colored paracord from "The Supply Captain"
