Forget the fancy stuff, go old school!

Seriously, if you can get a spare Alice shoulder strap, you can make a baller-ass old school Vtac-style sling

Also, you can check OC Tactical and Supply Captain for webbing and buckles

Survivorman did a great thread a few weeks ago on homemade knock off VTAC slings.
I loved them and he generously mailed me some alice slides and HK hooks. I had some AOR1 webbing from Rocky Woods and made my own. They are bad ass!

Normally, $4 for the alice slider, $2.50 per HK hook, Six 1" nexus triglides for $0.45/ea, 4yds of Desert Digital Webbing because they can't market it as AOR1 for $1.88/yd,
This is the first run mock up, not the finished product but you get the idea. Roughly $20 each, absolutely whatever pattern you can get your hands on, and tailored to your body size
You can also add a metal D-ring between the triglides where they attach tho the MOE stock so the front HK hook can come back and attach to form a 1 point sling. This concept works better when mount to the end plate, not the stock
AOR2, Multicam, ATACS-AU, and kryptek to come

I'd just as soon replace the metal ALICE adjuster with a plastic QD, adjustable buckle that wouldn't (1) scratch my firearm, or (2) make noise while doing so.  You don't need to double-up on the tri-glides, just use one and back thread the running (loose) end of the webbing back through the single buckle, thereby locking the webbing far better than by using two buckles.
If you insist on using the ALICE unit, thread a single strand of paracord through the hole, knotting it on either end.  Reason for knotted single strand is that loops WILL catch on brush, etc, and single strands will not.

With all the mil-spec nylon webbing and mil-spec nylon buckles available nowadays, buying a very expensive, manufactured sling might not be a wise way to spend one's money.

Given enough pictures of a particular sling, from different positions, I--and others--could probably duplicate it even in a no-sew version for a lot less than MSRP, even if we had to order everything.

Good food for thought. I've currently got a 4-5" loop on there since taking the photos.

Hey Raf......what plastic QD buckle do you recommend if one was to replace the alice pack buckle........have never had an issue with mine scratching a firearm......I myself see it as a non issue as if it does happen no biggie.... my firearms are tools for when bad things happen.....if my rifle gets tossed down the road and works im happy, a scratch from my sling is no biggie........but would like to see what you have in mind non the less

X2, even a 2qt/utility strap is pretty good.

Ah ok I see......the point behind the Alice buckle is by looping a piece of para cord through the hole in the buckle it acts as a  means to loosen your sling or give it slack very quickly as to go from a cinched up two point position to a fighting position rapidly.....It is very affective
