Holes in the base of the piston aren’t vents. They have no interaction with gas

You're right. I was thinking similar to the Zastava ported piston on AK's, but they are on the wrong end for that

Do the KNS parts look like MIM parts or are they all machined?  Same question for HB Industries but their parts clearly look machined. Seems like a poor choice to use injected metal / castings on these components but I’m not an engineer.
