@outrider
Someone texted me a picture of a Nefarious sold / marketed double picatinny Mk11 M110 style block today. I don't know if it's an SR25 cartel part or a Nefarious part, but that part was around $400, and in the white, however available. I don't know if they made it in stainless and that's why it's being sold in the white or what. Hopefully it's stainless, because carbon steel without a finish isn't ideal. At this point I think a roll your own upper is like $2100 including $400 gas block, $200 gas block assembly service charge, plus rail, muzzle device, and probably $100 for assembly. It's not an ideal cost for the upper. |

You did great on the FH. View Quote If we did a block there is just no way we would be charging $400. That seems like an offensive price for a block, even with these blocks being as complex and high tolerance as they are with details like the little swiss turned dowel pins that literally stand in for the totally functional spirol coiled spring pin in the MK11 block. I could see $240 or something maybe being what they cost in a short run format though, as they kind of have to be machined out of big square blocks of stainless steel due to the lack of formed bar stock and processes settup for mass production of the parts. They don't don't fit into a small diameter, so if you have a huge turning machine with a B head, they still come out of like 2.5" diameter bar stock in lieu of metal forms and with geometry getting milled because there is asymmetry, that's taking time to do. We are really busy doing a bunch of stuff that isn't in that direction, including just trying to make cans to supply the market. I thought about kind of an EMC light block (on account of all the requests and people seeming to want cans without the right interfacing parts) where it would be like easier install and not completely a visual clone, but thinking about it, and having time to do it are two different things. Obviously we need to make another run of these cans for example and that's 9 machine settups before we get to baffles. We are trying to hire more settup machinists to be able to turn over jobs faster. |

Nice. I've been thinking I'd have to replace the flash hider on my EMC to be able to mount a different suppressor, and then I see this.
|
|
|
HTX Concepts/SR25 Cartel is also doing flash hiders. Both in the SR25 3/4x24 as well as 5/8x24. This should help people out with more generic AR10 type barrels.

@tracer_bullet @Cdwadleigh I've been told the silencers that we didn't already sell to dealers (which are not gone, but will be available through those dealers for purchase), will be available on our website to your door at 5PM tonight CST. The Coupon code AR15 is 10% off, or if you are a member of the Griffin GI program, discounts are available to mil/LEO/first responders/veterans. It's not an emergency or anything, so I'm just trying to keep people who expressed interest, informed. I'd prefer if the cans we made sold out over 3-4 months to give us more time consider restocking if the market situation warranted that. Manufacturing is stupidly busy with manufacturing of more non niche inventory at the moment, and a couple development programs we're either actively working or trying to squeeze in. |

The interesting thing about the carbine can was that Zach at Mountains Mullets Merica and I both kind of felt it was the most impressive performer- nearly hanging with the M110 version but on a 16" barrel, and it is interesting it was a can that was never very available. It so far has been the least demanded item. I appreciate the positivity of the customers and people in the gun industry. Maybe their block is stainless instead of carbon steel? There is a swiss part that constitutes the pin or pins for the suppressor cam out feature. The mk11 I have is factory original and has a coiled spring pin so maybe an 1/8”x.25” heavy duty coiled spring pin is all that is required for the suppressor cam out feature support. I feel like 50% odds the coiled pin was fine but the solid pin was more fancy and seemed more in class with the cost of the rifles. |

Bravo Griffin, Bravo. View Quote I appreciate it. There is a lot of passion in the silencer category for whatever reason. The original mounts are repackaged Colt tech from the late 70’s and never had any suppressor related patents, and even if they had, those would be 10 years expired at this point- free use public domain. That greater passion and also customer enthusiasm is the only reasonable explanation for the negative reactions, as people aren’t losing it over lone wolf and other companies making Glock pattern guns and parts, or Smith and Wesson’s M&P pistol which are actually using Glock origin IP, but obviously expired IP, vs this situation where there was no protected IP to begin with, and where everything was purposely modified to be improved and different anyway. I brought a can to Modern Day Marine last week, as an example of a custom application we could support for a government end user need, if the branch wanted to work a solution to a problem with an industry company. I ran into a Marine sniper who told our people in the booth that he had tried hair bands (used by snipers for vegetation ties), and also 100 mile an hour tape to secure his m110 suppressor gate during low crawl portions of stalks. He mentioned sometimes he would put the can in a drag bag pocket in order to prevent it from coming loose in the bag and making clanking noises in the bag that might compromise his position, and only employ it at the final firing position. In his words (not mine), the gate retention system on the m110 suppressor was “the stupidest thing ever.” Thats one end users opinion who isn’t me, and I conveyed that point a lot nicer in my video, intentionally. |

Mountains Mullets Merica first shots on the MGL-11 suppressor (to 1275 yds with A-TIP Ammo):
14.5” 6.5 Creedmoor vs 20” .308- Ballistically identical? Mountains Mullets Merica reviews the MGL-11 and MGL-C suppressors: Griffin Armament MGL Suppressors- First Look Zach's factory MK11 Mod 1 (M110 without the adjustable stock) has a pretty severely pitted barrel at just 3000 rounds fired. Zach didn't realize that the factory barrel was carbon steel with no lining for corrosion resistance and he's now waiting on a re-barrel to shoot the MGL-110. KAC estimated ~$3000 for a re-barrel, and he's waiting on a Bartlein cut rifled barrel in their new gee whiz super long life stainless variety. Not that 416 isn't awesome. In army testing the M24's shot .3MOA to over 20,000 rounds, proving that 416 is superior to Carbon steel for precision rifles. The KAC guns shoot really nice, but it is kind of bummer to have to basically take the can off and clean the barrel immediately out of concern the condensation from firing with a can might corrode the bore. The USMC basically learned the lesson of stainless steel for sniper rifles in retrospective of the Vietnam war. Carlos Hathcock mentioned the M70 barrel pitted pretty bad in the jungle which would be expected of un-plated carbon steel. I believe the M40A1 barrel was specd out as stainless from Hart barrels to prevent the problem. The M40A3 replaced that with SS from Schneider. |

More info on the barrel issue?

|
Originally Posted By rbutcher: More info on the barrel issue? If you visit his instagram he has a bore scope video you can see some pitting in the vicinity of .04" in surface width/length size, including on large pit in the crown of his barrel's bore. The barrel still shoots maybe 2MOA, but has an ~5 MOA left shift and the patterns open up without the KAC M110 can attached- that was demonstrated in a video. If I ventured a guess I would believe the pitting causes a harmonic that the can dampens better than without the suppressor attached and that sort of explains the shift and the different group sizes suppressed vs unsuppressed. He was concerned about baffle strikes (which I don't think would happen) but was waiting on his rebarrel or for his new 6.5 upper to be built to shoot the MGL-110 can, and his KAC M110 can again, as his knowledge of the severe pitting has him feeling shooting that barrel with cans wouldn't be as wise. I think the Bartlein barrel is running him around ~$1250 total because he's buying 400MODBB? (some proprietary named stainless material) Bartlein is claiming will almost double barrel life over more conventional 416R in hot barrel burning calibers, with an accuracy standard of killing the barrel if it shoots over 2" at 400 yards, and [probably paranoid] people are charging Zach significant extra money to cut that material for the chambering/barrel extension install, and gas block installation. |

Army comparison of the cans by 2023 International Sniper Comp winner
It took a long time to get a can transferred for performance comparison. Initial information seems to suggest the guys at NGWTC Army Sniper School preferred the MGL-110 over two generations of m110 cans. So I take that as we did ok on our design which is always nice to know, because it is rare to get feedback at all, much less from the best qualified end users in the world. Some images attached: |

Thats an interesting offer.
It would make an interesting sound testing video, but indoor it would be hard to hear the gun. I think we are sort of approaching a second run of the MGL110’s. The environment has been super busy and it has just been a major challenge to keep up with production lately. We have a couple machines getting installed in the next two weeks or so, and have been continuing to hire and train machinists, operators, assembly and cs personnel, but this has been the toughest year in our history to meet production goals. |

Thanks. The Mk11 can we tested and compared to the KAC version was probably the least impressive of the family. The M110 cans were well liked by the Army Sniper Instructors who tested an example. The carbine can was the best performing in size to performance, slightly outperforming the mK11 cans, but not outperforming the M110 cans.
Nice looking rifle- those are hard to find at any reasonable price. I remember wanting one when they were like $4650 dealer back around 2011, and I just didn't have the expendable income to grab one then. I bought a used LMT MWS and it was Ok but heavy, not really accurate compared to KAC, and over gassed for .308 cans. I sent the barrel to 300 below cryo to get it running more like 2MOA. I also bought a Troy .308 gun of the CSASS style with the long ejection port upper, and it was ok, but somehow the guns have to be pretty high quality or they just don't quite scratch the itch. haha We are sort of in the early stages of a .308 rifle project. I'd like to make a gun that is high quality, that more people can afford. The upper and lower forgings of the full ambi large frame gun are in production, but with a .308 gun, the forgings aren't the whole gun, so we have a lot of parts we need to develop and manufacture. |

We began making parts for the second run of these cans. In the current environment I can't say when those will be complete but the baffles represent most of the parts so we're closer now than before to that next run being produced. We also just received the Army Sniper Instructor evaluations back comparing the MGL110 to the M110 first generation and printed second generation M110 suppressors, and the results were overwhelmingly positive in comparison to both cans, in a very comprehensive number of compared performance characteristics.
That positive news was really appreciated as it's seldom anything can be compared to a highly respected relevant product by true industry professionals. It was a happy few minutes to read the evaluations. I really appreciate the Instructors taking the time to evaluate the product. I consider Doug Olson to be perhaps the best suppressor designer of all time, and his technology was in the original M110 can. Those evals are going to be posted to the product page for the MGL110 in the next few days. I'll post back when they are up. |
