Any chance you could post a pic of the prototype? I got to use an M79 a long time ago with the SERE group lost in the mountains, I loved it. Ive wanted one ever since then, but It's frustrating how unavailable they have been for regular Joes. Gotta ask... still in the 2-2.5k range? |

Wanted to let everyone know that the receiver project is completed. They will be registered on a Form 2, and that is currently what they are waiting on. Tests are complete, and they are working on parts kits now. Barrels also. I will be posting pics of the finished product and providing contact info so you can place your orders shortly. I will be posting links to the manufacturer and prices at that time. FYI there have been a few improvements made so far on internals like a stronger hammer spring… to correct problems with the original manufacture. I will advise when I know more. GROG

The first ones being made are of 4140 steel, and machined out of solid blocks on a 5 axis mill for high accuracy. Pieces are then deburred and sandblasted. . They are made in two pieces and tig welded together.
They will be Nickel Boron coated matte black. This coating far surpasses the old military ones in durability, wear, and abrasion resistance. They will also be manufacturing internal parts. Some parts will be made from 303 Steel or 17PH stainless. There will be 10 available when sales start. Manufacturer is ready to start taking orders. Manufacturer is Pace Defense (Reloadableshells.com) Price per receiver is $2000. Can be transferred on a Form 3 to your FFL dealer. There is a 3% credit card fee if paying by credit. First 10 receivers will go to those making a deposit or paying in full. After your Form 3 is approved, he will ship. The titanium ones will be made in the future, and be an additional $600 ea. The tig welds on the one in the photo will of course be finished in a radius. So it's a complete receiver assembly (including all internal parts) but they're transferring it as a Title II DD. This is what the $2k buys.
To complete the M79, I would need to find/add my own 40mm barrel assembly, forend assembly, and buttstock assembly. Is all of this correct? When will they be offering barrels? Those are to be sold separately? |

Additional info provided by the manufacturer:
The receivers do not come with internal parts. However we are manufacturing them in lots of 100 at a run. We are about a third of the way. Also we scanned a new M79 barrel and farmed out to a shop that has a 4-axis rotary mill. Barrels should be available end of November early December. Coatings are scheduled to be performed in mid November. Company has a very good reputation in the firearms industry. I have two prototypes, uncoated and tested with factory parts kits . Internal parts are machined out of either 303 stainless or 17-4PH, (firing pin and hammer). Hammer spring is being constructed out of a premium much stronger spring materiel. All other springs are stainless. I upgraded everything possible. Barrels will be button broached and then machined out of solid bar of 7075 aluminum. I’ve spent over 60K in set up, tooling and fixturing on our 5-axis mill. Repeatability is within tenths. Machine is two years old. It’s looking like 750-850 for the brand new barrel stripped, and another 750-850 for the complete parts kit with improved springs and some stainless parts. So, all together less than 4k for a brand new, not from castings, M79.
Those prices may change a bit depending on material and farming out costs of a few of the parts. Those are ballpark, but should be relatively close. GROG |

 I am definitely interested to hear how progress goes on the new mfg M79s, and compare the two. I may have to pick up a parts kit when they become available, assuming they are completely interchangeable with the originals. |

Just to note, Randy Shivak was selling his bare receivers for $3500 before he retired. And I think they were $1700 when he started out, which was 20 years ago. So you can get a receiver from scot at almost y2k prices

This seems like a good time to mention the rumors that PSA is planning to pick up the torch from Spikes Tactical and launch a 37mm flare launcher clone of the M79. Externally pretty much identical to the original, no NFA paperwork needed.
