Greetings,

Just got the tax stamp for my Mini-UZI SBR project today.  As I've
already had it engraved, I just need to swap out the standard barrel to
"construct" an SBR.

Anyway, can someone suggest where I can find an 8" barrel in 9mm?
I've looked at the following sources already:

D & D Sales- called, told no mini UZI barrels in stock (ETA = weeks)
Green Mountain- also out of stock, does not list 8"

Alternatively, maybe I should just purchase a 16" carbine-length barrel,
and have it shortened/threaded...?  Can anyone suggest somebody who would
perform this service...?

Thanks for your help,

SD

This is what I did. There's a lot of places that perform barrel chops and threads so you shouldn't have problems finding someone to do it. I had someone locally do mine and it turned out great. You can also ask over on Uzitalk.com if you don't have anyone locally.

Note that there are two different barrel types for the Mini.  One for the SMG, and one for the semi.

http://www.c3junkie.com/MINI_3lug/

The above link shows the thicker section of the SMG one.  This was done to prevent someone from dropping in a short barrel in their non SBR UZI.  The semi verion has a thinner OD around the begining of the barrel.

So, you will need to get a semi barrel, and shorten it down.  I'd have this done anyway, even if the SMG barrels would fit, as you're going to want it threaded for use with a can.  Little is as cool as a Mini Uzi with a can.

Note 7.75" was the IMI length.

I just had a local machinist / friend cut down and thread the factory vector 16" barrel.  Also I have several D and D barrels, I love em.

I've got 2 Mini Uzi semi barrels that have a Uzi nut on there and three lugged for a suppressor, if interested send me a IM.  I used to have two SBR Mini Uzi's years ago and the people who bought them didn't want them.

Gemtech did the cut on mine. I run the can with an uzi barrel nut endcap. Adco can do the work pretty quick but any local smith should be able to do it. The barrel is pretty simple to work.

With the can.

Thanks to everyone that has replied to my post.

After looking around a little bit at what's available, I've decided
to buy another 16" Mini-UZI barrel, and have it shortened/threaded.

Although I have a Bowers suppressor w/ Dedicated UZI nut
attachment, I figured threading the barrel in addition would allow for
additional flexibility.

Will keep you posted on how the project turns out.

This is my promised f/u on my Mini UZI barrel project--

Had it cut and threaded by JP Grips & Machine:

http://www.jpgrips.com/

They'd done some great work for me before, and I'm just as happy
with this project-- barrel fits the gun perfect, and the knurled thread protector
he made fits essentially flush with the barrel.

BTW, I have purchased (pending) a Bowers VERS-9 with dedicated UZI nut
adapter, but the advantage I see of threading the barrel as well is additional
flexibility.
