I have a fiberglass stock from Fred, but is he the best place to get a wooden one?  If not, where?

It looks good in the fiberglass:

But I have been thinking of putting it into some wood to go with my Garands:

I still have the original wood, but using that would remove the 922 compliance since it's not a US made stock.

How much?  I didn't know they had any.  Yeah, it looks good in the fiberglass.  But you can't beat good wood either.  Let us have a look see when you get her all wrapped up in it, kay?

If you are looking for a real nice walnut M14 stock I wouldnt get one from CMP. They are pretty much beater stocks. Not a bad deal for the money but nothing that will be nice looking wood
You are going to have to pay two-three times that amount to get nice walnut

I bought a CMP stock, but it hasn't arrived yet. Looking forward to getting it and seeing what shape it's in. Might buy a couple more and see what kind of condition they can be reconditioned to.

Fred's -can be a pig in a poke for actually getting your stuff.  He got my money for no product.  He's a thief in my opinion.  He dragged it out so long the CC company couldn't help me.

The CMP stocks for $35 are US mil takeoffs that the army refurbed by heavily sanding out the dings (mostly, they'll leave the deeper parts), puttying up some spots under the trigger guard housing to get tension, and the metal on mine looked refinished.   The metal on the CMP stock is worth the price.  If you hate the wood, take the metal and buy an aftermarket wood stock and fit and finish it yourself.

I have bought a couple of really nice M14 stocks from US Armory.

And no, I don't work for them.

Ordered a $49 walnut from US ARMORY

US ARMORY STOCK

cleaned it up, steamed out a few dings with a tea kettle.

hit it with some winwax red chestnut stain, with a bit of red rit dye.( maybe too much red )

3 coats on minwax tung oil.

might need to dull off some of the gloss with light steel wool.

==================================================================
Need to fill that selector hole with a dummy kit from Fulton, or SparrowHawk.

Mine should be here on Tuesday.  If it looks bad but is in decent shape, there is a woodwork shop that can clean it up for me.
