Thanks for the updates here.
I emailed both my state legislators to oppose all of the gun control bills, especially the assault weapons ban. Their both dems, but I'm not in the bluest district so maybe if they get enough backlash they'll do the right thing and vote against these atrocious bills. |

The new bill keeps those aspects intact. The big difference would be the punishment for buying one of the weapons under the definitions in the bill. If it becomes law, violators would be hit with a hefty fine: $250,000 for a first-time violation and $500,000 for every violation after that one, rather than a Class 2 misdemeanor as proposed in last year's measure
So they've changed it to fines vs jail time. |

I think it's written into the bill that it goes into effect in July, so even if it's passed early there's time to stock up.
Polis may veto it, but Ds have a supermajority, so it may not matter. But maybe Ds in contested districts aren't so interested in playing with fire and the super majority isn't relevant. Some uncertainty here. |

At that point they can only be passed down through a will, or given to a FFL who must render them inoperable within 90 days.
