Not a single one of these supporting testimonies sharing stories about the Boulder shootings are mentioning that the shooter was screaming Allah akbar. Not one

Man, this spokeswoman or committee member or whoever she is, is absolutely unbearable. "not to be cheeky" well, you are. She should be turned off and tossed out.

Her questions are so inflammatory and slanted, then when she tosses a softball to the supporters, jeeeeez. Man oh man.

The dems have a supermajority and could give a shit about the testimonies

The AWB is a smokescreen for many other bs anti-2A bills proposed during this legislative session, just like last year (which brought age restrictions, waiting periods, red flag laws, and manufacturer liability laws)

The 2024 proposed anti-2a bills, among other lunacy, from this crop of "representatives"
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb24-1174  - CCW Permit Requirements Increase
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb24-1270  - Firearms Insurance
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb24-1292  - AWB
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb24-1348  - Vehicle Safe Storage
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb24-1349  - Firearms Tax
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb24-1353  - FFL Requirements Increase
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb24-003   - CBI Increased Powers Enforcement
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb24-066  - Purchase Tracking
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb24-131   - Sensitive Places / CCW Restrictions

Also they voted to exempt themselves from open records & meetings rules
https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb24-157 - Open Meetings

Testimony against the AWB is still ongoing - there have been some good speakers against, a few faux-pas, and alot of looney leftists spewing nonsense so far

The "Sensitive Places" concealed carry restrictions bill, SB24-131 is being heard by the Senate Judiciary committee tomorrow at 1:30pm MT

You can testify against it in person, online, or written just like with the AWB
Sign up here, select your testify method, and then find the bill by committee (Senate Judiciary)  and bill name in the obnoxious drop down menus

Thanks for the updates here.

I emailed both my state legislators to oppose all of the gun control bills, especially the assault weapons ban. Their both dems, but I'm not in the bluest district so maybe if they get enough backlash they'll do the right thing and vote against these atrocious bills.

The new bill keeps those aspects intact. The big difference would be the punishment for buying one of the weapons under the definitions in the bill. If it becomes law, violators would be hit with a hefty fine: $250,000 for a first-time violation and $500,000 for every violation after that one, rather than a Class 2 misdemeanor as proposed in last year's measure

So they've changed it to fines vs jail time.

They changed the punishment to a petty crime, in an amendment passed with the same 7-3 vote around 11:00 last night.

Did a single person ask about how if these are deadly weapons of war that spray bullets and rape children and kill women indiscriminately or recklessly, how come cops always get a carve out and get to keep them?

How are they any less dangerous for a cop to use than a trained civilian?

I know people bitched about the exemption, but did anyone actually call that specific point up?

Nope, Bacon.  She showed as much blatant disregard and disdain for the comments in opposition to the bill as she possibly could.  I wanted to shut the feed off so badly multiple times but I listened so I could witness their treachery.  Hardly slept and had to get up early.  Pretty damn pissed this morning.  My wife and her family are all joking about ranches in TX but I can’t make lighthearted use of myself at all.  I need a long walk.

I feel the same. Just disheartened and in a fog. I didn't sleep at all. Also in a horrible mood. I feel really misanthropic today.

Goes to the House, who will pass it breathlessly. Then to gov polelicker to sign. Not sure on dates.

Question is will he sign it.

I think he will this time. They removed the sticky point of arresting offenders. Now they fine you to oblivion. Zero risk to politicians or cops.

So, by July I think this baby will hit full force.

I think it's written into the bill that it goes into effect in July, so even if it's passed early there's time to stock up.

Polis may veto it, but Ds have a supermajority, so it may not matter. But maybe Ds in contested districts aren't so interested in playing with fire and the super majority isn't relevant. Some uncertainty here.

Your brother wants to send people with guns to take otherwise peaceful people's guns. Thant makes him an armchair thug and is going to result in more deaths than having "weapons of war on the streets.". I know - I'm preaching to the choir.

You're correct that it will sail through both.  A couple of Ds who are in tight districts may vote against it, but that's it. The numbers are more than there

Trying to read the bill.  Things that are BANNED.

Pistols with threaded barrels
Just about any semi-auto rifle that has a threaded barrel, collapsible stock, flash hider, etc
Anything that shoots .50 Cal
Not sure about: Benelli M4

Not banned:
Ruger 10/22

Not sure about a grandfather clause
ETA:
IT IS CRITICAL TO LIMIT THE PROSPECTIVE SALE OF ASSAULT
24 WEAPONS AND ACCESSORIES, WHILE PERMITTING EXISTING LEGAL OWNERS
25 TO RETAIN THE ASSAULT WEAPONS THEY CURRENTLY OWN;

This is bonus: They have no proof of this:
26 (d) JUST AS THE DESIGN OF ASSAULT WEAPONS MAXIMIZES THEIR
27 LETHALITY, POLICY DESIGNED TO INTERRUPT THE PROLIFERATION OF
1 THESE WEAPONS HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE JUST AS SUCCESSFUL IN
2 DECREASING DEATHS

Also it looks like it would be illegal to sell any of these banned firearms... Which seems odd to me. Like, you can't divest yourselves of them?

Also, read it closer. An "assault rifle" is defined as a semi auto rifle that takes a detachable magazine and has ONE of these other features:
(A) A PISTOL GRIP OR THUMBHOLE STOCK;
9 (B) ANY FEATURE CAPABLE OF FUNCTIONING AS A PROTRUDING
10 GRIP THAT CAN BE HELD BY THE NON-TRIGGER HAND;
11 (C) A FOLDING, TELESCOPING, OR DETACHABLE STOCK THAT IS
12 OTHERWISE FOLDABLE OR ADJUSTABLE IN A MANNER THAT OPERATES TO
13 REDUCE THE LENGTH, SIZE, OR ANY OTHER DIMENSION, OR OTHERWISE
14 ENHANCES THE ABILITY TO CONCEAL THE WEAPON;
15 (D) A MUZZLE BRAKE;
16 (E) A FUNCTIONAL GRENADE LAUNCHER OR FLARE LAUNCHER;
17 (F) A SHROUD ATTACHED TO THE BARREL, OR THAT PARTIALLY OR
18 COMPLETELY ENCIRCLES THE BARREL, ALLOWING THE BEARER TO HOLD
19 THE FIREARM WITH THE NON-TRIGGER HAND WITHOUT BEING BURNED, BUT
20 EXCLUDING A SLIDE THAT ENCLOSES THE BARREL; OR
21 (G) A THREADED BARREL;

AND ALSO anything specifically listed below.

Also basically all semi auto shotguns. All Rifle caliber pistols. All pistols that have another grip, or threaded barrel.

So. A metric fuck ton of guns banned.

All banned items are grandfathered to the individual who possesses them when the law goes into effect.  At that point they can only be passed down through a will, or given to a FFL who must render them inoperable within 90 days.

It was mentioned in the committee hearing that it would be possible to sell the items out of state.
