Anybody have one of these? Considering buying one during the time Smith is offering the rebate, need one like a hole in the head but I kinda want one anyways, any feelings on them one way or the other appreciated.

I've got one from the pre lock days, and love it.  Carried it quite a bit in Narcotics.

They’re very nice revolvers even with the lock.

I believe they are around $800 before the rebate that’s a rough guess, then I believe the rebate is $75.

I’ve got a 3” 586 L-Comp but it’s close enough to a standard 586. I haven’t had any issues, shoots plenty accurate and been reliable.

No dash no M in blue.  Excellent gun.  Has one of the better stock Smith triggers of any of my revolvers.

I had 586 6" (sold it to fund a Desert Eagle when I was in Highschool) and my Dad has a 686 4".  Both shoot great.  If you are looking for a solid 357 revolver to add to your collection you won't be wrong.

686s are such great shooters.

I own a 2 1/2" and a 6"+ that I had ported.

Both are great shooters and I wouldn't sell them but have thought some about something like a 4  or 4 1/2 might be fun .

Back 6 months or so ago I grabbed up a early 28-2 pinned and recessed blue .357 N frame with a 4 1/8". The N frame trigger (and heavy cylinder) make for a trigger that is not quite as nice as the L frames but still very nice . Has been keeping me busy

I have a blued 4" 586-3. Excellent trigger and a lot more accurate than I am.

I need to add a 586 (and a 581 and 681) to my collection. I could have grabbed a 4" version for $900 at the gun show a few weeks ago, but I chose to grab a 3.5" Model 43 and a 2" Model 40, instead.

I've got J,K,L & N frames Smiths, Colts & Rugers & Charter Arms and even a (solid) Taurus 85 just for reference.
I really love the blue 4" 586 a lot. It's just a great DA revolver for heavy use with magnums.
If I didn't have a need for 44 mag horsepower I'd happily live out my days with L frames. (I know I can get a 5 shot 44 mag L frame, I'd rather have 6)
If it turns out it's not your thing, resale is solid so no reason not to give her a shot.
The heavier 357 bullets available today let it creep up the usability scale but I love 357's and I love 586's.

Does this mean a mint looking 6" 586-M at $850 is FO worthy?

I have one.  It’s beautiful.   It’s too beautiful to shoot. So I’m selling it.
