just because a topic has been posted earlier does not make it an ayutomatic lock under the COC.
8.) Posting repeat topics with similar or slightly varying titles. While it may seem to be funny, the "spamming" of the community in this manner results in problems for users and management. (Multiple topics on important issues or discussions are acceptable, this only applies to topics which waste resources for no other reason except personal enjoyment or humor.) This rule is for the purpose of preventing spam BS from over running the forum. Calling DUPE on EVERY thread has gotten beyond old. Calling DUPE in a thread regarding a fallen soldier is just WRONG and in severely poor taste. mike |

dupe
ETA Dang I got beaten because of the stupid 30 second wait between posts! ETAA Oh. Serious thread. |
Wow what type of ass would do that. |
that was not intended as a joke |
Didn't think that part was, hence the second smiley. I'm just surprised someone would really do it. |
Thanks, Beer.
ETA: If more people would put an actual subject in the header, a search might be worth something to see if you are a 'duper. |
BROWN NOSER! |
Different aspects of the same topic are perfectly acceptable. The lock for being a "Dupe" is mostly applicable when the exact same article or news story is posted, in order to keep discussion in one thread. If something was posted six months ago, that is NOT a dupe. We simply don't want multiple threads of the same thing running concurrently.
Excellent point! It is irritating as hell to have someone crying "DUPE!" for a thread titled "You won't believe this!" when someone else posts a thread of the same article, but with a title that actually describes the subject. Geez, use your head people. |
my problem is the stupidity limit has been exceeed with this crap |
thanks for trying to fuckup a serious thread |
Why is everybody so ANGRY! Can't we all just learn to live together?
And this has been posted how many times now?
A bunch... so I dupe your dupe on dupes This needs a lock by the way. It offends me greatly. |
Come on bud, don't you get sick of seeing the same thing posted 50 times? |
Shaddap, Rodney! |
when it's bullshit yes. that does not apply to every thread. when a thread has been buried back 15+ pages it really doesn't qualify. What i am tired of is a bunch of idiots posting DUPE continuosly bumping a thread for no other reason than to raise their post count. It does nothing but keep garbage on the front page of GD, and in this case shit on a serious thread about the death of a soldier. |
Why didn't you just lock & tack this thread? Serious question. You know you're going to get children playing when you put your foot down. |
Wouldn't those DUPE posts keep the story on the front page to help some of us see what we might not see otherwise? This is a case of taking shit too seriously. This place will always have immature people posting, it's life on the web. |
a.. the thread does not warrant a lock b.. i really expected no less when i posted it. c.. there is no technical COC issue over calling dupe. Other than sheer post whoring or spamming a thread. |
Okay, I think we can see the real issue. RIP soldier |
yes it keeps bumping the thread, the problem is it kills discussion on the threads when you have to wade through 3 pages of "DUPE" to see an actual reply. as for taking shit to seriously, sorry when it comes to the death of a USGI i don't think that is possible. |
Nope not with friggin jack booted dupe cop cyber thugs watching every move made 24x7 on one of my favorite forums. Not everybody can stay on here around the clock - there are times when I might not be here for weeks on end. "dupe" "dupity dupe dupe" and all the rest of the bullshit sucks.....It's fucking irritating... |
You know damned well that is not the context my post was in. you generalized that calling dupe was keeping post on the front page. I think sometimes that is GOOD. Especially in the case of a fallen soldier Of course this is ARFCOM and your milage may vary. I most respectfully submit that you are in the wrong place if you can't learn to ignore. |
we will just have to disagree. "DUPE" is a backhanded insult to the poster ie... "why are you posting this again..dumbass" Once the first person posts it, it's guaranteed the next 10+ posts will be "DUPE" Want to post, try something other than worn out stupidity. |
You realize you've just eliminated 50% of the posts here, right? |
Yep, agree to disagree. I guess I don't feel insulted or feel I am giving an insult. Of course I don't get insulted here(it's the internet), that is a reaction I can and do control. And RIP, to the soldier that prompted this thread. |
just yours |
If your biggest gripe today is that idiots on the internet yell "Dupe" at the drop of a hat, then you're not doing bad at all.
Relax. Have a beer. Go play outside in the rain for a few hours. |
i've already done that. Got bored |
Ok.
The poster in question was way out of line. I have sent a scathing IM to him. The problem is people this is just an internet forum, it really does not affect your life in a big way. We all need to take things less seriuosly on here. It is the Internet for the Christ Sakes. What is so bad about having a high post per day average? This is a Forum? Forums need participants, right? Everyone just needs to relax. This is only the INTERNET. |
Looks like about all you have left is to go slay a beer, beerslayer. Dupe does keep a post up top, but if it's a dupe anyway, why bother? If you are going to cry dupe, as least include the link to the other thread.
I agree wholeheartedly:
As posted by your's truly on January 1.
Thank you Beer. |

I am not a dupe Nazi at all, and in fact I doubt I have ever "called dupe" on a thread before but I did on the Sioux Warrior thread because I thought it was wrong and really dishonorable to not check (search) the forum for a few days back to see if there was already a thread on that subject. There was an excellent thread, four pages long already and it would have been better if people had added to that thread. I will obviously obey the moderator's wishes on these matters. I would have appologized and removed my post right away when people disapproved of my post but the disapproving posts were abusive, as was one IM I received. I don't think anyone should automatically assume that posters here have evil intentions. I've been a member here for 6 years, a paying member for several years, and I think I have contributed positively to these forums. And lest anyone doubt how seriously I take this I have close friends who are in Iraq right now and other friends who have returned from there. I even have a friend who was badly wounded. I have visited Walter Reed to see wounded soldiers. I have spent close to $1,000 the past three years sending care packages and books and magazines to men deployed in Iraq and Afganistan. GunLvr |

Your sincerity is not in doubt here. I recall your words--"Your Indian name would be . . ." Perhaps a simple, "Here is another thread on this most serious topic you may wish to check out--<Link here>" . . . would have been a better way to address the situation. You are absolutely correct, the nastiness was NOT in your post, though it was a bit crass (IMO) in such a serious thread. It's fixed now, so no harm no foul. Thanks for addressing the situation and explaining your thoughts and intentions. |
I almost forgot... DUPE!!!! - my thread from the team forum....
You Deserved that IM I sent you.
You have pulled your post and for that I thank you. |
my intent here was not to call you out. and for the record i am pretty sure i didn't send you an IM. my response to your post in that thread was far from abusive. yours was just the straw that broke the camels back on this stuff for me. i am tired of wading through 2 pages of "dupe" trying to read a thread. I have no pull as far as that stuff goes it is not a COC violation and as such my posts here are my personal opinions. |
actually if you sent him an abusive IM, NO he didn't. |
The posts in that topic were more abusive than anything I wrote in the IM. I chose to handle it privately unlike the others. It was a Scathing IM, not abusive in any form. |
We have no rule forbidding private correspondence of any type, but leaving such things to mods and staff would be appreciated. |
I vote you start banning these morons who run around yelling dupe everywhere. |
You know....I really hate that the duplicate topic ban was even ever started. I'd much rather see two or three very similar threads that are sometimes weeks or months apart than fucking "Hey! Look at me! I'm an idiot and you posted a dupe thread!" in every other fucking post I read. It gets really old and the fuckers that do it all of the time really need to grow the fuck up. That's all I have to say about that. |
this is exactly my point thanks |
