Quoted: Imagine having such a mundane life that this is a story you feel worthy of telling to strangers on the internet. View Quote It's a cautionary tale imo. Not getting a sandwich isn't an emergency but not being able to buy gasoline could be. Every grown man should have a little emergency cash in his pocket at all times. |

I have seen it many times with cc systems going down. I prefer cash because I don't like being tracked.

Cash is legal tender. I always have some on me.
We have had power outages twice in two days. Cash talks, cards walk. |

Quoted: I was up in Cambridge, MA a few weeks ago visiting my son and we went to the one Square near Harvard. We decided to get something to drink and went in the one Asian restaurant. When I paid for our drinks, I used cash and got a reaction like I had tried to pay with beads and shiny rocks. My son told me that I was probably the first person to pay for cash since the place opened. View Quote |

I’m not one to post-count shame, but 8k posts in 1 year is pretty impressive for someone who only makes time to share significant content. I’ll bet most of those were spent arguing. If you’re a Millennial, there is still time to stop before you end up like nacho cheese guy. |

I keep $500 on me, but rarely use cash.
But sometimes it is fun to watch some kid vapor lock when trying to figure out your change. |

Lol
Millennial here, I always have at least $200 on me at all times. |

The other day I saw a Gan Zer paying by check. He was so proud of himself as he took 5 minutes to write it out.

I keep cash at the house, hidden in my car, and on my person. It's come in handy more than a few times. Usually during power / internet outages. It also allowed me to pounce on a few good gun deals from individuals.

Gen X checking in…
NEWS FLASH !!! Haven’t carried cash in 20 years. I do however keep some stashed in the car for emergencies. |
|
I was always cash until a few years ago. Gen X
Now I'm CC always; for a couple of reasons, I like it much better. Still carry about a 100 bucks. |
|
Most cannot count cash or change either.
Our cafeteria stopped taking cash and I have not visited it in the last 4 years. Putting a cup of coffee on plastic is pretty stupid IMHO. |

So perfectly normal, well-adjusted people fling poop 8K times a year in political threads but they don’t start threads about light-hearted GD generational banter. That’s a pretty advanced cope. |

I usually carry around $500 on me.
If travelling several thousand is not out of the question. My cash is never in my wallet. Usually in one of the cargo pockets of my 5.1.1 pants. I have had a debit and credit cards since 1986. I also have my cards loaded onto my iPhone wallet so I can also tap to pay when available. Technology is not infallible which is why I carry cash at all times. |

View Quote I don't think that is the real reason. When I asked at places like ticketing at school sporting events, cafeterias, and the like that have been transitioning away from cash to plastic only, the main reason I was given was they don't want to do cash for security reasons. They don't want opportunities for theft from the outside or from the inside that comes with cash. Some people are just too tempted when around/handling cash... |

Quoted: What's the point of cash for small purchases? (And what constitutes a "small" purchase?) View Quote I recently told some youngster cashier that I was not going to finance a cup of coffee (or whatever petty thing I was buying). The place didn't take cash. She looked at me like "finance?". I said, yeah I'm not taking a loan for a cup of coffee. You know a credit card is a loan, right. (Deer in the headlights). Yeah, pay the CC in full every month, I get it bro. But the point remains. I carry cash because it makes many situations so much easier. And it makes me a better tipper, too. $7 purchase, round up to $10 bill. OMG! That's 43%. And petty cash. And friendly. |

Tip for those that carry cash . Use your phone case as a place to stash cash . I usually keep 3-4 $100 bills in mine .

I don't leave the house unless I have at least two or three Franklins in my pocket.

I rarely carry cash. Last time I used an ATM was to get cash for a strip club.

It's so easy to fold up two or three twenty dollar bills in your wallet for situations like this.
It can be a meal or a tank of gas when you can't get one otherwise. |

I always carry cash and use it for at least half My transactions.
