Hmmm... not sure how to view this. It would add stability to have a member country in that part of the world, but it also could mean they would get some more advanced technology. But apparently they would not be full a member in the sense of defending other NATO allies if I read it right.
"BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina formally requested on Thursday to join NATO as a global partner, a status that would clear the way for greater political and security cooperation at a time when the right-wing government of President Javier Milei aims to boost ties with Western powers and attract investment. The request came as NATO’s Deputy General Secretary Mircea Geoana held talks in Brussels on regional security challenges with visiting Argentine Defense Minister Luis Petri. Geoana said he welcomed Argentina’s bid to become an accredited partner in the alliance — a valued role short of “ally” for nations that are not in NATO’s geographical area and not required to take part in collective military actions. NATO membership is currently limited to countries of Europe, Turkey, Canada and the United States." https://apnews.com/article/president-milei-argentina-nato-f16s-military-bf56ef4b18646438500c921250c66e93 . |

In before they fall behind in their required GNP investment in their defense spending.

Not a member. A "global partner" i.e., not part of the alliance but cooperate in joint exercises and stuff. Mongolia, Colombia, and Pakistan are already NATO global partners. This is a complete nothing burger.

It’s very smart, because Brazil is an economic powerhouse which could easily overwhelm Argentina. America has always maintained the status quo, but if we are done doing that, Argentina needs to be part of a military alliance.
Additionally, it’s a cheap way for Argentina to get the credibility they need to secure more loans to re-boot their economy. |

Be nice to have a decent ally in South America, do we even have any?

They probably have more Germans willing to fight then Germany does.

While their current leader makes me optimistic, their history does not.
Let em get a decade or 2 of capitalism and freedom under their belt and then we can talk. |

Is this their way of keeping the US from aiding the UK the next time they go after the Falklands?

Will they kick China out of the big base they built in Argentina?

Milei is a smart guy.
If he wanted to he could make a ton of money selling weapons to the rest go the world |

Quoted: Yep, thanks to geography Turkey has NATO by the balls and they know it. They control the Black Sea, occupy NATO's southern flank, and have the closet NATO base to Iran. NATO wouldn't kick them out even if they wanted to. View Quote |

It would be the perfect opportunity to have some air bases down there to counter threats in the Southern hemisphere

Argentina is faced with making a decision on which side to ally themselves with. It all comes down to money and resources. I’ve been watching the Chinese fishing fleets plundering the Chilean side. It’s a thing to behold. Sometimes it’s lit up like a huge City down there. Maybe we can get Chile into Nato too. |
