GD is the same men from 100 plus years ago that were bitching about internal combustion engines and saying they’d never replace their quarter horse and wagon.

I carry both with only irons and with irons and RDS. Definitely a time on target advantage with RDS and as I continue to train it will get even better. Embrace the technology it will make you a better shooter once you get past the learning curve.

I’ve banged up my pistol and smashed the irons to the point the rear sight knocked off the pistol and they were deformed and unusable.

I prefer the dot because it allows me to be faster and more precise past 10 yards- specifically making my pistol an effective fighting tool out to 50 yards easily.

But hey, what ever.   Do what you like.

I’ll bet the vast majority of guys put a dot on their pistol because they thought it was cool and did minimal, if any, training with it. Bet they are way slower than with irons. Can’t find the dot.

And that’s the kicker. I practice like a mother and I’m ok but I worry that if I have to draw, under stress, cold with no warm ups, I might not find that dot.

The future is here to stay, I get fist sized groups with practice ammo at 15 yards and all pie plate hits at 25 yards.

Just took a class with the G19 and I was faster and more accurate then everyone without a red dot in the class.

Both days after the ditch digging I was able to run my fingers through my hair and dirt would fall out all over.

In all of these activities with an exposed muh open emitter optic there was only a few times (4-6) where debris found it’s way into the optic. All of these times I drew the gun and the debris fell to the bottom and the dot was still able to be acquired, a simple blow and it went out.

With the mist and rain the dot was still visible 100% of the time and with both eyes open presented no issue. But a simple wipe with my finger would remove the large droplets.

The muh open emitter meme is overstated. For a conceal carry gun where the optic is protected by clothing or for a gun where the optic is shrouded… I don’t think it really matters. But if you’re worried get a Aimpoint Acro or something

Then you just need more practice behind the dot. Try drawing and dry firing continuously as well as live fire drilling under induced stress you shouldn’t be hunting for the dot. Like any other piece of equipment you’re proficient on It needs to become muscle memory. I bought RMR’s several years ago which sat in my safe as I hated them until I decided to put in the repetitions and training needed to become proficient with them.

it's not about effectiveness, which in my opinion red dots are more effective. it's not about reliability, red dots are just as reliable. the main concern is if you needed a red dot, why would you reach for a pistol? if you were to use nods or thermals, why would pistol be your go to? that's the red dot solution looking for a problem. the whole point of a hand gun is carry. and the whole point of carry is smaller lighter faster. that's why they're single stack, a full mag is too much weight and volume. same with barrel and slide. red dot just makes no sense.

the reality is, usa has been getting safer for many years. the idea of using a carry gun literally decreases every year (except this last one). so adding a drum mag, silencer, red dot, all fail to follow the intended use. it's not designed for room clearing, 3 gun or distance shooting. the red dot superiority at a distance is exactly its problem: at distance, you should be getting out of dodge or at the very least, going to a rifle.

but alas this is a gun forum. people put a 3-20x on a shotgun and then cut the stock off so they can't reliably use the scope nor the shotgun, all while screaming 'gitrdun' at the paper zombies. to each their own.

Seeing irons clearly as you age is a real problem. Reading glasses, even top bifocals are impractical.  All my pistols are going RD over the next year.

I don't get it. If you can't see your irons your shit is set up wrong. I'm not a pistol guy at all and its super easy to use. Makes longer shots much easier.

Probably not, the guys who are proclaiming irons are “better” are poors and probably don’t have nods.
When you actually train with a pistol you realize a dot makes it so much faster in every aspect

Haven't read every post, but let me make an educated guess on how this thread is going.

Anti-Dot'ers post ridiculous and untrue arguments against red dots.

Dot'ers post counter argument

Anti-Dot'ers get their depends in a wad and autistic screech about how they shouldn't be forced to change.

steiner mps, I'm waiting on mine currently to show up so I can finish prototyping acro plates for arex pistols and make some at work.

They're suppose to a competitor to the acro p2 (which is unobtanium right now) with a bigger sight picture, same level clarity glass, and slightly worse battery life.

Ehhhh it’s not really like that though… the resistance is usually backed by varying doses of “I don’t need none of that newfangled trash… if you need that much help hittin’ the tergit maybe let yer husband show you how to use real sights…”

For sure it’s great to train with and use both. Beneficial. But some of us who had the same problem but have figured it out are trying to help others figure it out with some shortcuts … and are met with resistance.

It doesn’t help that this thread is posted so often so there is some weariness associated.
