View Quote I watched a few of the videos at the Twitter link. For two groups of people that are battling, I expected more violence, injuries and death. Bear with me here. It's my understanding that in Chicago or other gangland areas, gangsters shoot and kill each other daily over minor issues. But what I see in the videos is just throwing of cardboard and some hair pulling or open hand slaps. Yes some are smacking with broom sticks, but one person has a tennis racket. Really. I expected brawling level fighting, like punches, black eyes, knocked out teeth, broken arms, knives, guns, lots of blood, maybe even pipe bombs. And I expected it would escalate into multiple people at once in a melee attack. I expected dead students. I really thought the protestors wanted to kill Jews, and I figured this would be their opportunity. I must have misunderstood the context. Am I that off base? I'm not rooting for this type of outcome. I do think the protest would be a very dangerous fucking place. In meme format: |

Perhaps one might recall that the Barbary pirates were attacking US merchant vessels, stealing their goods and enslaving their crews. |

One might further recall that the reason the pirates were attacking US merchant vessels, stealing their goods and enslaving their crews was that other powers were paying tribute to avoid such treatment, which led to US ships being attacked. One might continue to recall that, subsequent to the US putting the pirates in their place, other navies began taking action, solving the problem for decades afterwards. But, hey, that's okay. Treaties are for suckers. That's why the French told us to fuck off during the revolutionary war.... oh, wait. |

We weren't in the area trying to overthrow their govts, or bring them democracy, or take their resources. We weren't trying to change their way of life or culture. We were simply sailing the shipping lanes and trade routes. All the lives America Lost in WWI made no difference because we ended up back in Europe for WWII to lose even more. That gets followed up with Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, the Middle East, Northern Africa etc. Not to mention the butterfly effect from all of it plus South/Central America . Everytime we get involved in the politics of foreign lands our country loses freedom, blood, and treasure. Meanwhile China goes around the world and just buys influence without losing a single soldier, using the wealth and technology that they obtained from the USA. |
