Whew, clicking on the thread I thought it would be about Jimmy.
Thank goodness it wasn't. |

Good job, sir.
And you're right. They don't make rifles that good anymore. I've been bitten by the C&R bug for this very reason. Modern bolt action rifles are pretty good, but they just do not compare to an old Mauser. |

Nice! Adorable little guy! Quoted:
... I drilled a hole about 2 inches deep in the buttstock and placed a note for Carter to find some day, with the information about him and me, and the occasion. http://media.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=23724 I then screwed down the butt plate over it. I absolutely LOVE that you did that. |
Great job as always O_P! That little guy is gonna love it when he finally gets old enough to shoot it!

Thats pretty cool! Holy Mosins. One for every occasion? +1 When I grow up I want to be OP. |

O_P, you're an animal.
God bless you, sir! The note idea was brilliant! |
O_P, you're an unfortunately rare example of a fine gentleman.
This is awesome! I've always liked going into pawn shops to see what I can find...
Awesome. I sure do enjoy your refinishing projects.
BTW- My birthday is next Monday.... a decent Garand should do fine. |
I just realized I am your long lost grandnephew and you have a lot of birthdays to make up for!

Any reason you don't favor steaming dents? I have steamed out big dents before. But this rifle didn't have any bad dents, and the small dents give it some character. |
I'm assuming you also supplied a few thousand rounds of ammo too.
The coolest thing is the note under the buttpad.
Make sure someone knows its there. Very awesome of you to do this for him! |
You're a damned fine man Don.
I also loved the idea of the note in the buttstock. I might add one of those pics that show him with the gun. That would be cool to have in there. |
OP,
you are an example of what every son, grandson, nephew, would want for a mentor. The people that know you as family are blessed. |
Bravo OP
He is going to cherish that rifle for a life time and ya'll are going to create some wonderful memories with it |
Quoted: O_P, you're an unfortunately rare example of a fine gentleman. Amen. Incredible deed O_P! And thanks for the idea - my boy turns 1 on 12/1. |

Who is Eddie? I suppose it is the name of the boy that used to own this rifle. I could have removed it, but it just so happens that Carter's Great Grandfather was named Eddie. Eddie was a WWII veteran and one of the finest men I ever knew. So, I left it there in his memory. |
I actually see a resemblance between him and you O_P. The letter in the buttstock is a nice touch of class too.
I received one of those Remington's back in the late 1970's as a gift. I love it!
I have a Rem 512 too, just picked it up. I got it for my 2 year old. You know what they say about great minds....
