True story (not my family though!):

My sister-in law is from Oklahoma and has a slight accent. She has cats and when she lived in the south she would take them to the groomers and have what is called a Line Cut. To her a line cut is when all of the fur hanging down below the cat's tummy is taken off because it gets matted or snarled). When she moved to Chicago with my brother, one of the cat's fur got all tangled up during the move so she took it in for a line cut. She was quite surprised when she heard the price, as it was twice as much as it was down south. She confirmed with the groomer that he understood what a line cut was and he said "Yes, I know what a LION cut is." It seems her accent came out sounding like LION not LINE and this is how her cat was returned to her. (see PHOTOS) She cried for a week...but not as much as the cat. It was November in Chicago and the cat needed
all the fur it had.

I have a pure white cat that would spend days just lying under the bed. He was a beautiful cat, but surly as hell, ran from everyone, especially the kids. Because he would hide for days - weeks at a time, he got so matted that it was impossible to brush out. He was going to have to be shaved, so I got him the lion cut. It actually looked much better on him than the pictures above [:)].

After the cut, he has had a COMPLETE attitude adjustment. He doesn't hide, he plays with the kids, it's like a whole new cat. He is in much better spirits even now that the hair is 90% grown back.

My brother's cat gets the same cut once a year. I almost crapped myself the first time I saw it. His other cat would just walk around it, looking at it like it was a circus freak.

Our cat has long hair. When he starts leaving clumps around the house I take him to the vets to get shaved. Not trimmed, not clipped--shaved.

My instructions to the groomer?
"I want you to take him down to the skin. Tail, feet, jowls, everything comes off. No "lion cut", no cheek hair. Just leave his whiskers and face alone. When he comes home I want the other cats to laugh at him."

We do this about 3x per year. I'll post "before" and "after" pics if I can find them.
