I went back to researching and have pretty much settled on going with a MasterBuilt 800 Gravity Grill with some LSS Mods, (Wisconsin). It has a griddle included, can hit 700f for searing, can grill, and smoke if desired, so really is just one piece of equipment that does everything. Complaints seem to be that the electric brain can be wonky, and that the app itself can be problematic. Additional complaints are that the design allows grease flair ups/fires pretty easily. Extended warranty from Home Depot and the LSS Mods fix most of those issues. I've gotten right about 10 years out of every grill I've had so I figure with the LSS Mods we should get 10 years out the MasterBuilt. I have not had a charcoal grill since we moved into our house. Bought a gas grill because it was faster to get going and could handle more food for entertaining. Now that we dont entertain hordes of people like we used to before the kids, a giant grill isnt really needed. I dont have alot of experience smoking meats, and so far it's just the wife and I that like smoked foods. Kids are pretty meh overall, but do like the smoked salmon and my nephew's smoked chicken wings, so I believe they could be converted if things were properly prepared. I was looking a pellet grill, but I also do not want 87 different pieces of equipment taking up space on my deck, so the whole Griddle/Smoker/Grill thing really appeals to me. We'll see... I might be a little too excited about this, but I actually made a fudging pocket knife!
Attached File Attached File Tldr: it's not my design, I used a pattern from Chris Crawford's website. I believe it was designed by Jean-François Moretti. It's called the arrondi. Blade and spring are 1084 with the blade hardened to ~60 hrc. The scales are carbon fiber and the pins are 304(I think) stainless steel. |
