Yes, I know there is a sub for knives but I see cool shit posted here in GD by people who aren't in the sub then forget what the title of the thread was and then get bored trying to search through every random knife related thread in GD.

This is what I usually carry for long bike rides:

It looked neat and would cover the bases I was after....but the reviews are not great with it, so we passed.
I went back to researching and have pretty much settled on going with a MasterBuilt 800 Gravity Grill with some LSS Mods, (Wisconsin).

It has a griddle included, can hit 700f for searing, can grill, and smoke if desired, so really is just one piece of equipment that does everything.
Complaints seem to be that the electric brain can be wonky, and that the app itself can be problematic. Additional complaints are that the design allows grease flair ups/fires pretty easily.
Extended warranty from Home Depot and the LSS Mods fix most of those issues.
I've gotten right about 10 years out of every grill I've had so I figure with the LSS Mods we should get 10 years out the MasterBuilt.

I have not had a charcoal grill since we moved into our house. Bought a gas grill because it was faster to get going and could handle more food for entertaining.
Now that we dont entertain hordes of people like we used to before the kids, a giant grill isnt really needed.

I dont have alot of experience smoking meats, and so far it's just the wife and I that like smoked foods. Kids are pretty meh overall, but do like the smoked salmon and my nephew's smoked chicken wings, so I believe they could be converted if things were properly prepared.
I was looking a pellet grill, but I also do not want 87 different pieces of equipment taking up space on my deck, so the whole Griddle/Smoker/Grill thing really appeals to me.

We'll see...

at least it is US made. I didn't even know they made a griddle. I thought they just made griddle inserts.

The Blackstone obviously was not researched, I was told to buy it.

I'm blown away by how light it is. I know it's not exactly a "big" knife, but it is stupid light. It's incredibly thin, just feels like nothing in the pocket.

Haven't cut anything yet, so can't comment on the blade or the edge, but the finish of the scales and blade are exceptional and the action is glass smooth. I mean drop-shut, finger-getter.

Brief size comparison between the Rask and the Stellar. Similar length, but the Rask is noticeably thinner and quite a bit lighter, but it does have a slightly smaller blade.

The stellar comes in at 4.3oz and the Rask at 3.1oz (by my scale).

I have to agree. I liked the Norseman, for a while. But it is a goofy blade shape and I will likely carry this more often.

Kinda hoping I can move the Norseman into a Holt of some form. Undecided on a Specter or a Morpheus.

Tldr: it's not my design, I used a pattern from Chris Crawford's website. I believe it was designed by Jean-François  Moretti. It's called the arrondi. Blade and spring are 1084 with the blade hardened to ~60 hrc. The scales are carbon fiber and the pins are 304(I think) stainless steel.

Thanks!

The solid carbon fiber situation is pretty slippery but I had the extra pieces that were the right size. (they were actually handles for a friction folder I never finished) the next pattern I try will probably be from AEB-L and probably a more traditional pattern, maybe with bolsters. Maybe I'll order some fancy stainless though. These things use a lot less steel than a kitchen knife. Lol

Just meh, the display version deployed well, both cigar cut and full open.  The one I unboxed doesn't fully open without assistance.

As far as cutting cigars it's done fine on the couple I've used it for, I seem to prefer a full cut vs. the v-notch.

Hey!

That's cool as hell!

And it's CF as proper things should be.

Maybe I'll order some fancy stainless though. These things use a lot less steel than a kitchen knife. Lol

Thanks!
