Ruger American Ranch (Page 1 of 48)

Had been on the lookout for a CZ527 Suppressor-Ready in .223, but with the 527 line being discontinued it seems like availability has really dried up fast.

The Ruger American Ranch offers pretty much everything I was looking for and a little more in terms of features. What's the overall view of quality and accuracy of these rifles?

Thanks

The stock cocking piece on the American rifle is made from MIM , notice the ejector pin marks where they can fail, rendering the rifle useless till repaired, the billet piece shown below  doesn't have that issue, it also slicks up the trigger pull a bit.  the red piece is just a tool that helps with disassembly of the bolt, not required, but quite helpful

If Ruger ever offers the American Ranch in 7.62x39 with a left handed action I'll order one ASAP. I've been wanting one since they introduced the RH version a few years ago.

Ruger seemingly made a bunch of these in .450 Bushmaster, because everyone has them in stock.

I got this email from Grabagun about 2 weeks ago.........

Pretty sure I just saw one in stock at a LGS the other day. This LGS in particular does a lot of their business on GunBroker now, so they may be willing to ship. PM me if interested, I'll give you the name.

The x39 versions are pretty sweet. I can squeeze out about 1.5in groups with Tul 122gr ammo.
If I can find reliable Aics style mags for x39, the stock would have been swapped out for a Magpul one.

We also have a RAR in .300BLK, the old one with rotary mag that is not convertible to AR mag. Cool little gun. I found a supersonic hunting load it likes, but still trying to find a sub load it likes. It does not like 220 gr Remington subs.

I am blown away at the accuracy of my Ruger American in .308, 16" threaded barrel. I put it in a magpul stock, magpul bipod, and even with a literal no-name 3-9x scope with 175gr match ammo i'm shooting .5-.75moa at 200yards. It actually pisses me off because I spent over 2 years specing out and building a really fucking expensive 20" precision AR build and it blows it out of the water for accuracy for about 1/4 the cost.

I appreciate the head’s up.  Unfortunately between the time you posted this snd now, my wife texted me our washing machine died and it bring 15 years old, I doubt I’ll be rebuilding it again.

My household harmony will be better served replacing the washer than adding a new rifle to the arsenal, so I’m going to wait until Christmas bonus to start seriously looking for a RAR 7.62x39.

So, I wouldn’t mind a Predator 6.5, but I would prefer a different sporter stock. Maybe a lightweight composite, not seeing many options though. Anyway to do this and still use AICS mags?

My SBR’d Ruger in 7.62xCommie is my guilty pleasure rifle. Cheap rifle, garbage ammo, cheap trash panda silencer, cheap leupold. But it all comes together into a lightweight package that’s so pleasant to shoot. And did I say cheap? I’m sitting on cases of trashy commie ammo. It’s my mission to find out how long the barrel lasts.

I have the RAR Preadator in 6 Creedmoor. I bought an MDT chassis for it during one of their yearly sales. It shoots 1" 3 or 5 shot groups. I can't seem to tighten it up with factory ammo but will take that for a 5 shot group. I throw on my .45 Hybrid sometimes and have an Anarchy bolt and know. It makes a difference when prone and you lift on the bolt. I'll reload for it when I get more components in the future.

Quick question as a friend asked me and I don't have access to my RAR AR556 to test.
Can you manually feed a round into the chamber with a ar mag still attached or will it double feed?
Or can you only load from the mag?

I thought you could manually feed but honestly I've never tried it as I use my mags...

I don't have one but if you had a loaded mag in the gun, you'd certainly at a minimum need to push the top round in the mag down so the bolt rides over it to do that.

A issue with the ar mag ruger ranch rifle is the bolt hold open tab on the AR mag stops the bolt from feeding on an empty mag (it functions)

with an empty mag you have to drop the mag a tad to close the bolt

or you push down on the follower and ride the bolt over the tab

Link Posted: 12/17/2021 11:27:39 PM EDT
[Last Edit: doc_Zox] [#35]
The bolt head wants to strip a round off the mag if it is behind the magazine

if you pull the bolt back 3/4ths you can drop a round in the chamber and send it home with the bolt

if the bolt is behind the mag you have to partially drop the mag 3/8ths of an inch to keep from stripping a round

with an empty mag you can toss rounds in the port and push them home with the bolt

I've tried the Boyd's At-One stock and it did NOT work with a X39 Ranch.

When I tried installing it I found the bolts to attach the stock to the action were too short.

Called their customer service and they told me to try sanding and cleaning up the inside of the stock. This did not work.

Called CS again and was then told the stock would not work with a X39 Ranch and that I was on my own to try to get it to work. I pointed out what their website says it does but once aging told it would not work.

Ordered one size longer bolts and was able to get the stock attached to the action only to discover that rounds would not feed reliably from numerous X39 mags that work fine in my X39 AR.

That sucks.  I’ve read the Boyd’s site, snd came to the same conclusion you did - the 7.62x39 action would work.

I have read of people swapping the plastic insert in the factory stock to switch from the Mini mag to an AR mag, seemingly with success.

That sucks.  I’ve read the Boyd’s site, snd came to the same conclusion you did - the 7.62x39 action would work.

I have read of people swapping the plastic insert in the factory stock to switch from the Mini mag to an AR mag, seemingly with success.

You would need to use 7.62x39 caliber specific AR mags instead of your Mini mags.

This is path I’d probably do,  but I have a 7.62x39 AR tone of reliable mags for it so switching from the Mini30 mags would be an easy decision on my part.

I didnt know you could do that.  I have lots of ar47 mags…

@AeroEngineer

I've seen the same about the factory mag well swap too.

I plan on eventually buying a 6.5G Ranch and put it in the Boyds stock I have. Then I'll try the 6.5G stock's mag well in the X39.

If I can find reliable Aics style mags for x39, the stock would have been swapped out for a Magpul one.

The AICS magazine compatibility would be the end all.  I would also put it in a Magpul stock.  Actually I have, it’ll reliably feed about 3 rounds into the 308 magazine.  Not worth it.

Oddly enough, my Boyd stock works fine with mini magazines.  I switched it out to get AR compatible feeding.  PM me if you’d like to buy the Boyd AT1 stock with extra mini magazines.  I’ ain’t gonna use them.  Most of the magazines are new.

I picked up one of these little 7.62x39 rifles in 2017.  Mine is very accurate, and with my handloads, I have killed deer and hogs with it.  I am well pleased.
