Damn right.  The only other driver I'm pulling for other than Max at this point.  Him giving them the finger is the best thing ever at this point.

Louie loses a net of 2 places, Leclerc gains 4. Sainz gains one for the podium ...

Fred Vasseur about this time next year, "We're focusing on 2027 when we can hire Carlos back."

Sainz is having the season of his life when he needs it most.

Danny Ric is having the worst season of his life when he doesn't need it the most.

Alonso cannot retire from F1, idk what I would do with myself

Although they can’t really touch Max, it’s good that Ferrari seems to have gotten on top of their tire deg issues from previous seasons.  I think some of their previous seasons bad strategy calls were somewhat forced by their tire issues.  Although Leclerc couldn’t hold off Carlos on his much fresher tires at the end, the strategy did get him up from 8th to 4th.  Both Ferraris seemed quite happy on the mediums.

Have to wonder how race tire strategies would have worked out if FP2 hadn’t been wet, since no one burned through any dry tires.

Think China is make or break for Danny Ric.  If he does OK, he’ll get a bit of a reprieve, but if he wrecks, or gets handily beaten by Yuki, he’ll be out for Miami.

It was also a solid average race. Let's be honest, there's not really all that much to discuss about it.
There was some good overtaking, owing in great part to the variety of tire / pit strategies that came into play
after the red flag, but at the same time, it wasn't exactly a nail biter either.

I am trying to figure out where Sainz is going to end up.

Ricardo will probably get booted, and I doubt Sainz will go there.

Mercedes does not have a good enough car for him.

Any ideas?

I dont see Stroll getting booted, but I could be wrong

I would have put Redbull on the list but Perez is doing his part so far this season so I don’t see them doing anything.

McLaren isn’t going to make a change

That leaves Mercedes or Aston and I hope its Aston.

That’s my very uneducated guesstimate at this point.

ETA - OR Sainz goes to RB with the carrot that Perez’s contract won’t be renewed and he would then move to RedBull.

Perez started out strong last year and then collapsed so it’s probably too early to assume his seat is secure based on current results.

That would be a massive downgrade for Sainz.  Sauber sucks, and will suck for a while.  Even when Audi takes over, there is no guarantee they will quickly move up the grid.  In fact, they probably won’t for years.

Whatever it ends up being, all of the dominoes are going to fall pretty quickly. Toto, Marko, and even Sergio commented this weekend that the moves are going to start within weeks and at the most, a month.

IMHO, Sainz goes to Red Bull for all the obvious reasons and the bonus that his presence would lessen the blow if Max threatened to leave. The question to keep Sergio around has always been up against a definitive lack of a better option.

My guess is Aston Martin.  Their cars seem to have it but the drivers don't.  The Mercedes cars are a weak point.

RB is looking for a new driver to go with Yuki because they will be firing REC after the next race.

I wouldn't be shocked if Haas threw their hat in the ring.  They do use Ferrari power so it isn't out of the question.  They could push out one of the other guys for a big name driver who has wins.  Hell, dump them both.  Put Sainz and Bearman in them and go for it.

SO much of F1 success is the CAR.  No matter what I doubt he will be as successful when he moves, at first.

I don't know. Would RB want someone like Sainz who isn't going to just let Max treat him like a piece of furniture?

Plus, who is going to bring the most sponsorship money?

RB is in an interesting position.

The core of the “what have ya” Red Bull controversy that we witnessed over the last few months is still there (Yoovidhya is going to break the racing/engineering company off from the drink company) and if that offends Max’s allegiances, so be it, they could/would/should have Carlos.

As far as where would he go? All bets are off for the new 2026 formula. That will change the pecking order. It will go back to a PU formula like 2014. Could be Honda, Mercedes, Ferrari, or Red Bull…..but the odds are high he will be ending the 2025 season as a 28 year old 5 time champion with every option available.

Nothing lasts in F1. People talking like RBR will always be competitive; that's not how it works. Same with any of the others. There's always one standout team, but their days are always numbered.

Here's what I'd like to see happen with drivers/teams:

VCARB: I hate to say it but RIC out and Lawson takes his seat.  RIC becomes an F1 commentator/personality because he's obviously a fan favorite.  Unfortunately, he's a better TV personality than a driver at this point.  Yuki stays.

HAAS:  Bearman gets a seat, replacing Hulkenberg.  KMag gets a 1-year extension.

Williams:  Gets their shit together somehow.  Sargeant gone, Schumacher takes his place.  Albon is there through '25.

SauberStakeKick:  Zhou gone, Gasly gets his seat.  Bottas stays another year.  Their pit crew gets their shit together.  This would break up the fight between Gasly and Ocon that often ends in a crash.

Alpine:  Stops sucking ass.  Ocon gets a 1-year extension and Gasly is replaced by Doohan.   I can't imagine another driver wants to go to that team with the current shit show.

Mercedes:  Sainz to Mercedes and he's quicker than Hamilton in the Ferrari because it would be glorious.

Aston Martin:  Lance fucks off to give handjobs to his tennis coach and Drugovich takes his place.  Alonso gets an extension.

McLaren:  No change.

RBR:  Perez remains consistent this season and keeps his seat.  When he's performing well, I can't imagine a better #2 driver.

I saw that on a F1 news site too.  Not going to get it.  Article I saw also said that Marko wants only a one year extension so he has to keep working to keep his job instead of just slacking off knowing he doesn’t have to worry about a new contract for a few years.

They used to say stuff like this about Schumacher. It wasn't true then, and it isn't true now. A front-running driver would not get a sudden amazing performance out of a midfield car. If he's winning in a car, it's because that car is good enough to win.

KMag seems like the better mentor for a young driver.  Hulkenberg is a dickhead.  Hulk is also 5 years older and has never even made a podium finish.  At least Magnussen has one of those.

Realistically, I'd be fine with both old losing HAAS drivers going away and being replaced by rookies but it's rare for a team to do that and not keep one vet in a car.  It would be interesting hearing Pietro Fittipaldi and Mick Schumacher's names being called out during the same race though.  Nostalgia boner.

My list already has 5 rookies starting next year (I know Mick is technically not a rookie, but still) and that would be craziness.  Bearman and Lawson are technically not rookies either, but basically they still are.  They didn't conduct themselves like rookies and showed they're as good as any of the mid to backfield drivers.

I like your logic. I would consider whoever can give the better feedback about the car as a keeper. Haas has a lot to fix and the better feedback from the drives would probably be very helpful.

It's a childhood thing for me.  I grew up watching that one.  Had the model.  Had the slot car.  Had the magazine pictures.  Loved that.

You're not wrong.  Maybe HAAS gives RIC a seat alongside Bearman?  I wouldn't hate that.

I think Daniel is done at Red Bull but he still has a bit to offer a shit team.  HAAS shows decent one-lap pace occasionally and bad Ricciardo is still as good as KMag or Hulk.
