I'm curious to know what kind of language ability we have on this board. The thread about the countries got me thinking about it.

State what languages you speak. Indicate whether you are fluent. And for each language, state whether you can read and write in it too.

Me, I speak English (native langauge)
Russian (fluent, read and write)
Ukrainian (fluent, read and write)
added-->American Sign Language (I can get by if I have to)

I also know bits of Spanish, French

, Japanese, Chinese and Cook Island Maori

(not fluent at all).

Used to be fluent in Spanish (read, write & speak) but I haven't used it in a while so I'm a little rusty.

I speak High School Spanish, a language that is only spoken in High Schoola in the United States.

I tried it out in a restaurant, ordering something to eat.

The waiter told me "Try it again in English. You just ordered an entire roast elephant with all the trimmings."

The following night I ate in a restaurant that proclaimed :American High School Spanish spoken here.

They understood me there.

also, in 15 minutes or so after the cerveza, you will need to know how to say "Donde esta la sanitario"

Actually I'm a first language Spanish speaker, but learned English when I was three. Oh yeah, my department pays me $20 bucks a month to be bilingual. Not bad for something that cost me nothing, and will earn me around $3200 by the time I retire. I can't complain.
