Cavalry Arms hosted a 3-gun match at Tiger Valley outside of Waco, TX this weekend. Here's some of the things you missed:
* The all-headshot zombie stage * Nighttime shoothouse including breeching a door with a shotgun * Weak-hand-only pistol stage (yes, all weak hand, including reloads) Some people, like Professor Evil, chickened out with some excuse like he needed to clean his house or something similarly lame. BTW, everyone received a prize bag worth at least $250-500 with some being higher. Several rifles and a couple Leupold scopes were given away. SO Y'ALL BETTER COME NEXT YEAR! Now, on to some videos... Zombie stage (all head shots) www.lifelibertyetc.com/files/video/Cav3GunTV2005/Cav3GunTV2005_Zombie01.wmv "Shotgoonery" (lots of clays). This is Benny Hill who was the overall match winner. VERY fast shotgun reloads. www.lifelibertyetc.com/files/video/Cav3GunTV2005/Cav3GunTV2005_Shotgoonery01.wmv "Wounded" This had to be done weak-hand only. www.lifelibertyetc.com/files/video/Cav3GunTV2005/Cav3GunTV2005_Wounded01.wmv |

Nice videos Pete! Looks like it was fun. We're gonna have to catch another carbine match sometime!

If you have a rifle, a pistol, a shotgun, a belt, a holster, some mag holders and a shotgun shell bag, then you're all set. |

Looks good, DVD! Hope y'all had a blast, and my apologies for not making it out there.
|
|
Dang, I missed a great time.
I tagged this earlier - unfortunately, I became a member of the newly unemployed a coupla weeks ago, so that made the match impossilble. |
|
I counted 24 shots without a reload on the first vid of the zombie pistol course. Was that a .38 super or a 9mm 1911?
P.S. Yeehaw on Benny Hill's shotgun reloads, and nicely tricked out Benelli too (it WAS a Benelli, right?) |
|
He did rifle, then shotgun, then pistol and back to rifle. |
|
|
So that's what a 3-gun tournament is all about? Cool!
Can you use a semi-auto shotgun with an external box magazine? Or do you have to use pump-action/tube magazine shotguns? I'm thinking you can shave a LOT of time with a Saiga-12. |
|
Yeah, I got confused there, what I meant was the left hand only pistol vid where he puts the mag down on the bench and then places the pistol on top of it to seat the mag. The one where he starts out sitting down. |

I just finished posting a video highlights reel from the shoot.
11.2mb QuickTime 7 movie of the highlights from the match or 11.2mb MPEG-4 (.mp4) movie of the highlights from the match alan |

I've seen people use Saigas. It all depends on the rules of each match. |

Me shooting the SAW

|
The only reason I ask is because I might be interested in taking up 3-gun matches. If I buy a Saiga and its banned from 90% of the matches, there's no point in me buying some pump action that I wouldn't be happy owning 99% of the time (I prefer a semi-auto box fed shotgun) |

LOL were you shooting at that car? The wheel looked fairly new... |

It really was a lot of fun.
It was my first "real" 3-gun match and I enjoyed it a lot. Mike |

That's Russell's troll account! Alright Pete, we need THE VIDEO. |
|
|
I have it, just need to do a bit more editing before I post it. Don't worry, everyone will get to see you being tasered. |

Less talk, screw the editing, I want to see ARFCOM Troll Tasering!!! Let's adopt an official blanket policy of electrically shocking these scallywags. |

Yeah! Lets zap those goddamn trolls! |

I really enjoyed how you SCREAMED when you caught the darts in your back.... |

To you and all else speaking of trying this out ... Warning! stuff is addictive! As for Saiga's, they are allowed in most matches I've seen. The downside is all major matches this will put you in open class. There are several major formats for 3 gun out there now so nothing is universal, but , most consider the mag to be a "speed loader" . This class is where the money plays a role. Open class means brakes and porting and optics and speedloaders on a shotgun, rifle and pistol. You'd be surprised in a couple of ways on Saiga mag changes. Mine run ~3-4 seconds. Top level shotgun shooters can load shells at .5 seconds a shell. So, if the course needs 9 rounds (that's what my 8 round mags hold) then I can keep up with the belly fed shotguns. Otherwise they smoke me! To be honest, with practice I should do it in half the time tho, and most shotguners are closer somewhere between 1 and 2 seconds per shell. All warnings aside, The Saiga is a VERY fun gun to shoot. The new importer is only weeks away from launching so if you haven't bought one wait for a few weeks and the pricing should come down a bit. I'd guess that mags will become more plentiful too. |

Wanted to chime in here, because of my previous saiga post. If you don't watch close, there some tricks that Mr. Hill displays here as natural as rain.... he reloads while he walks ... I know, you didn't miss that did you. He has a huge plan!!! This stage mixed shots, there were lots of slugs mixed in with the clays. Here's a place that the Saiga really struggles with! No fast way to get this done. Yet he's got a plan (and saiga's could too, but don't miss!) and has mixed the shells in his shotgun in the right order. And he's reloading from multiple spots on his gun/gear because he's reloading a specific mix of bird and slug (which slows his reloads down a lot). This is PURE SKILL. Me, I've got great plans that evaporate into thin air when the buzzer goes off. Notice him duck on one shot going for a 2 targets with one round. He gets 2 later on, but the weak way that the second target falls I don't know it was intentional He might have shook the clay pigeon holder and knocked it off. If he planned that (and counted it in his shell loading scheme) then he's even better than the superhuman status most shooters (especially me) assign him. I think he hesitates after that as his shell order is slightly out of wack. Notice the slugs don't recoil different than the bird. Notice that diff color shells. Notice with all of this he's loading a mix of shells ON THE MOVE and still loading around 1+ seconds per shell. This stage got ROCKED! |

Benny had the second fastest run on this stage over all and the fastest in Tactical Scope. The fastest run was by Alex Wakal using a USAS-12 in open class. The stage required shooting at least one clay and one slug per position: Alex loaded up with one slug in the chamber, and a 20 round drum of shot, for the first position, then one mag loaded slug-shot-slug-shot-slug-shot, then one mag loaded slug then all shot....he beat Benny's time by 13 seconds. The stage was intentionally designed by me to screw with guys using mag fed shotguns...Alex adapted, innovated and over came the scenerio. |

Thanks for the videos
ETA: I gotta try this sometime. I'll have to buy a shotty though |
|
Alex has more than nice toys, he knows how to use them too.
Reminded me of a pretty good shooter who mapped out a local course, then layed it all out in a bandoleer. Another of the shoot 3 bird, 2 slug, 5 bird, 1 slug .... you get the drift. He started with his shotty completely full, shot out first position and reloaded in his order while on the move and shot out the rest of the cof. I don't know if I could have even calculated the order, much less pull it off as smooth as he did. I noticed he slowed down just a little, dropping one shot would have hosed the plan. Looks like a well done match SRM, cudo's to you and your comrads! I'm sending you a PM to talk about course design. BTW, I'm in the market for a USAS12. If anyone happens to see one for sale, please email or PM me. |
|
Someone left a gun belt, holster, and mag pouches at the range...if you are missing your rig, please call me and we'll see if this one is yours 480-833-9685.
