Dont turn this thread racist.
I just cant get over all this racist crap If they keep crying wolf and pointing the finger it seems to me that REAL racist issues will get brushed aside. Where does it end?

TUPELO - Lee County NAACP leaders say T-shirts designed by musician Paul Thorn to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims are an insult to African-Americans and women.

"It is very offensive to the black community. It is black women being choked by a Caucasian man,'' the Rev. Paul Freeman, the Lee County NAACP president, told a news conference Wednesday.

As he spoke, he held up the shirt that depicts women named Katrina and Rita, with dark-red skin, devil horns and red-orange hair, being choked by a white man.

A half-dozen NAACP members convened the news conference across the street from the Lyric Theatre downtown where Thorn, a native of Nettleton, is to perform at a benefit concert tonight. The T-shirts will be sold at the show.

"I do care" about the NAACP's concerns, Thorn said when reached by phone in Chattanooga before he performed Wednesday night. "This T-shirt is going 100 percent to benefit hurricane victims. This was all done in the spirit of love.''

Thorn, who is from Nettleton, said he wants to respond more fully to the criticism later.

Recently, Thorn, who has an exhibit of his art at the GumTree Museum of Art, said he drew the caricature of himself with "two devil women named Katrina and Rita that I'm holding by the neck.''

A meeting Monday night arranged by Thorn and involving NAACP members was unable to settle the controversy.

Thorn's intent "was not malicious,'' said Debbie Brangenberg, director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association. The show will raise money for the association, the Tupelo Community Theatre and the GumTree Museum of Art.

Some around Tupelo didn't see anything wrong with the T-shirt. "It is typical Paul Thorn. I don't have a problem with it at all,'' said Christy Hall, a paralegal who is white. "It is off-beat, like a satire. It's his own way of looking at things.''

Thorn is simply raising money for a good cause, Hall said.

Others, who are black, condemned the design. "I wouldn't pay 50 cents for the T-shirt,'' said Mae Stovall, 61, a Belden homemaker. "I don't like the look of it at all. It is a little rude.''

Yes, if you are white, ANYTHING you say to, do to, intimate about blacks in any way shape or form, will be considered racist by some.

Its how they get by...shit, any white management, or for that matter any person that black people reporting to them must have a hell of a time. Any reprimand for poor work, and I am sure the race card is pulled.....

Yes.

Everything is "racist". Well, everything since the Big Bang. Stephen Hawking would have to explain "racism" prior to that, and I'm sure that according to the NAACP it most certainly existed.

"Racism" is a multi-billion dollar industry. The sooner one realizes this the sooner one can stop giving a flying rat's ass and just get on with life.

If someone calls me a "racist" I'll either thank them or ignore them. I figure either one will piss them off appropriately.

When I was in high school, another school's students painted a mural decrying racism as evil, showing a multi-colored humanoid figure being lynched by other humanoid figures of various colors like orange, purple, grey, etc. Guess what? Some black student said it was racist and offended him, and the school painted over the mural

IS ANYTHING NOT RACIST ?

*Yes, By definition you have to have power (white) to practice racism , minorities or "people of color" are powerless so they cannot be racist by definition. So any outrageous statement or action or crime by a member of a minority community cannot be considered racist.

A police officer's presense is considered a show of force. Thus, a police officer's mere presence can be considered racist act.

*Things I learned in a racial diversity class sponsored by and paid for by my (former)police department. Ask me again why I got out of that job.

Why doesn't the artist just say "They're red... Not black. They do not have black features, do they? They're RED. If you read any racist connotations into this, it's only because you're projecting them..."

Why can't anyone say that? I mean seriously... Show that (or crops of it, with just the red women) to a cross section of society and I guarantee you they'll say "Well, it's poorly rendered and a rather silly concept, but it's nothing more than that..."

In the future, ANYTHING that reminds the public of the behaviour during Katrina at NOLA will be racist.

IMHO, It was the worse race relations disaster since the Detroit riots. The NAACP are not idiots.

If you are white you are racist, period. You should apologize daily for being white. You should try to be less white whenever possible. You shouldn't own anything white, your house shouldn't be painted white, and your dog damn well better not be white. If you are white and have a job, you're keeping someone of a minority from having a job.

I think the fact that the vast majority of the type in this thread is BLACK is proof this thread is racist.
