These are soldier's that I work with on Ft. Wainwright.  I have worked with these soldiers for the last 3 years as a DoD civilian preparing for this deployment.  Prior to that I was a NCO there on Ft .Wainwright.  Our shop provided them with the guidance for the use of the Stryker Vehicles and the variations of Strykers.

We also provide the logistical, supply (Ammo included) and vehicle/weapon repairs.

Currently 172nd Bde. is in control of Mosul.  They deployed in Mid-August and we have lost one soldier to enemyfire.  He was hit by sniper fire while on patrol on top of a Stryker on his birthday no less.  His wife was fortunate to talk to him via internet/camera the day prior.  Very sad!

They are a bunch of good guys and may friends, I hope for their safe return after they give a serious ass kicking to those assholes.

Strange to see a cell phone advertisement; imagine being in a country and shopping for a cell phone plan while avoiding any activity that'll get you tortured.

If you look at the top of the wall as the stairs descend, you can read the writing that is loosely translated

as, "Durka... Durka-Durka...Durka Durka Durka, Durkmenistan, Durka-Durka... Camel-Durka-Fuck...

Durkaboulevard."

Very Cool Photo.  The photographer did a good job at adding depth to this.  The Hi-Res shot almost looks 3d.

I realize that.  But the guys who are wearing "full" ACUs don't match.  Their armor and helmet covers appear to be different "generations" of the pattern.

I hope the IBA covers (and the helmet covers) are a newer revised color scheme.

They have a darker Tan base while the ACU in the pic seem to be a light grey.

I was in the 2/1 at Ft Lewis wow times have changed.  But the second guy from the back has a straight up A2... theoretically it could have been mine.

To my highly untrained eye, it appears that the IBA/helmet covers are what USCav is selling as "milspec" ACUs while the jacket/trousers are their "All-Terrain Digital" pattern they had out before their "milspec" ACU pattern.

On the ACU color bit, now that there are more folks wearing them, I have had a good opportunity to see both generations side by side, and the first gen was definitely more blue/gray than the newest version.  I can definitely see the newer uniforms functioning well as an all purpose camo/color scheme.

Theyre attached to the rear chin strap bolts on the opposite side of the helmet.  Good for guys to goof off in formation pulling the straps of the guy in front of them.

Most combat support units in the army issue M16A2s, Ive got a brand new one that I picked up about 6 weeks ago that I broke in before Christmas break.  We dont even have aimpoint M68 or MG optics, will be lucky to get the stuff before Iraq this summer.  No ACUs yet either, unit returned from Afghan/Iraq last spring.

The newer gen ACU's are more greenish.  The first gen were more blue.

If you are unlucky, you get one gen pants and another gen tops and looks like crap.

Looks like a light to me. One of those M3s or something?

My favorite is the guy with the white haired guy with the M16A2.

that is just a sniff of the courage these men have. Going down into a basement - where you have zero tactical advantage.

good find.
