FN will release it as soon as the production is up to speed. Thats what I was told about a year ago when the FN rep stopped by the local store to sell the FS2000 & P90 civi version. I promptly got on the list for the F2000! It releases to us on March 2006!

Yep. FN puts out the FS2000 and the SCAR for civies and they will oficially be THE SHIT!

I'll buy one of their scatterguns and bolt action accurate rifles.

So you have no use for a weapon built on a system that uses quick-change barrels, a proven reliable gas system, AR-15 mags, has built in rails where they're supposed to be, folding adjustable stock, proper cheek weld that is adjustable for optics, and comes from a company that is known for building high-quality firearms?

Ok, more for me.

No, I don't.  I don't see it doing ANYTHING for me that the AR-15 doesn't do now.

Who needs quick change barrels?  Sure, sounds sexy but please.....

I have a proven, reliable gas system now.

I have AR-15 mags now.

I have rails, where I want them now.

I have an adjustable stock.   Folding, might be interesting.

Cheek weld?  Not an issue now.

Reliable company?   Not in the commercial world - they legally can't sell AR-15s.
More companies, more guns on the market = good thing.    Bring it out FN.

I ran into FN's military sales branch in early October.
They said 1-3 years for the civilian version, since the current production is dedicated to military uses.

agreed

There is actually a company already offering a quick-change barrel for the AR15, and to my knowledge, not many buy it.

I will look for the pix if I can find them I will post them.

But the point is, most who want different calibers, just get different guns

eta pix of the ar15 with quick change barrel

What's up with all the short barrels lately? Sheesh.

Of course, the civvie version will be atleast 16" and maybe longer.

I think the XCR and the FN SCAR will be competing for my $$$.

One thing I've been curious about the SCAR as compared to the older FNC....

Aside from the integrated rail mounts (and I assume the upper is alloy as opposed to steel) is there anything fundamentally different in design from the FNC?

So what makes the 5.56 SCAR-L so revolutionary?

I'm genuinely curious.

Take a look at this:

From what I've heard, the SCAR is indeed a modified FNC action.

If you mean because it's in 5.56 and made by FN, well then you're right. Those are about the only traits shared by the ARM [SCAR] and FNC operating systems. In a nutshell, the FNC has a two-lugged AK-type rotating bolt, and is a long stroke gas piston system. The ARM [SCAR] has a multi-lugged (Stoner type) rotating bolt and is a short stroke tappet system.

My apologies for being a wise ass, but the "Super FNC" nonsense was a) never accurate and b) has been debunked many times.

I would dare say the ARM [SCAR] has more in common with the *gasp* G-36/XM-8 operating system.

Stay safe,
Clint

Neither has the SCAR, so whats your point?  Hell I could have put the Styre AUG A3 or Shrike on there, but I didn't.  Those listed are going to come out barring some unforseen legislative problem.  Well the XRC maybe...we all know about Robarm...

INteresting, (I haven't signed up at lightfighter so I couldn't view the original post).

So what are the advantages of these two changes (multi-lugged bolt and tappet system) over the older design?

A.) they are uber guns
B.) lets support a company that is actually brining 21st century firearms to the civillian marketplace.
