Presidents to appear on dollar coins
http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?StoryID=20051216-011546-2131r

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Mint beginning in 2007 will start striking new dollar coins featuring the pictures of dead presidents for the first time in decades.

Four coins will be issued each year in the order in which the presidents served, reports USA Today. They are expected to become collectors' items similar to the 10-year state quarter program, which ends with Hawaii in 2008.

The dollar coins also are expected to save the government about $500 million a year because they last longer than paper dollars. But they are not expected to completely replace paper bills because of public preference.

I never like the Sackies (golden dollar) anyways

WTF?

Who the heck uses dollar coins these days?

Hell, who uses paper money these days, for that matter?

The only place I know where you get dollar coins from a machine is the post office when you buy stamps

Maybe they could use all the SB Anthony coins they have squirreled away and stamp the faces on those. I have dibs on Jimmuh Carter in drag.

I only liked the Sacagawea dollars for when playing poker.

I hated the fact they get so ugly so quickly though when they are in circulation.

It's all about making money for the .gov. They know people will hoard these and not spend them. Just like the state quarters.

One of the car washes here dispenses dollar coins. And the theater gives you change back in Susie B.'s and Sacajawea $1 coins and brand new, crisp, sequentially number $2.00 bills.

As long as they keep making them the size of a quarter, then you can bet yur boots that nobody will use them and there will be warehouses filled with them just like the SBA dollar& the Sack-a-ju-weeuh dollar.

Folks don't like the current $1coin because of their size....resulting in arguments with store clerks that you only paid them 0.25 or that you just tried to pay them in chinese ryo. ...or losing it in a coke machine, etc.

Make it the size of the old Eisenhower Dollar  or at least the size of a Kennedy (formerly Ben Franklin) 1/2dollar....and I'll bet more people will use it; at least it will feel like "real" money.

Only people that'll be bitchin' about it is the drug dealers having to carry around a sack of coins...slows'em down too much when 5-0 starts chasing them.

I have had cashiers try to refuse accepting them, thinking they were fake or foreign currency

What kind of impact will this have on the exotic dancing industry?

Are the stippers going to start carrying a coin purse?

Franklin 50 cent pieces were the most elegant of any of the large coins of their day.

1 dollar coins could stand to learn a few things from those old 50 cent pieces.

Up here in Washington, the State Ferry System gives out dollar coins and $2 bills for change all the time.  Every time I ride, I make it a point to give them back.  I thik it is the State Government's outlet for odd money.

I did in Dallas one night, actually a whole hand full of quarters... they dropped to the floor without even slowing down
I think I was trying to get the little darling to move back to Wyoming with me and I was showing her what a big spender I was.

She declined

Ever been to Europe or Mexico where they have coins that equate to a dollar (standard wise) ? The shit is fucking heavy and drags down your pants.
Dollar coins were great, when it could get you a bar bill, whore, dinner and then some... Five of those fuckers are heavy.

Sorry not into it.

Coffee machines at PA rest stops if you put a fiver in.

Basically, any vending machine that accepts bills larger than $1 will spit out dollar coins.

I used to be a fan of dollar coins but after spending a month in Europe and having to go through many metal detectors, I found euro coins to be a real hassle.

But I have most of the state quarters and will collect the dead presidents dollar coins.

They did this with the states last time. Anybody else thinking "This will be big for a year and then it'll magically drop out of existance for all practical purposes"?

Making the current dollar coin gold in color was a good idea. Using the only design in existence uglier than the SBA dollar coin was a bad idea. The eagle side is nice. The "face" is easily the ugliest coin ever in the history of this country.

Dollar coins were great for toll roads, until I caved in and got an EZ tag.

I really liked the new nickels that came out this year.

Exactly!
Then you would see the savings and they could put all the first ladies on $2 coins. Make the $2 coins copper colored and it would be awesome.
