But it did...
I retired today from the Los Alamos (New Mexico) Fire Department...
No more top secret "Q" clearance...
No more endless refresher classes..
No more drug tests ...
No more Department of Energy regulations...
No more University of California regulations...
But alas, and sadly; no more working with the greatest bunch of folks that I have spent one third of my life with..
From now on, it's just working with the new volunteer department in Oklahoma, and getting those nice retirement checks every month, and fishing every chance I get...
It hasn't really sunk in yet...
Wish me luck!!

Hey, when are you leaving town?  What's the connection between this and the title?

Can't actually believe that something like this really happened in America!!!!!!!

I went out on disability in 1999, and frankly I am bored half to death.  Retirement is fun for about 3 years, then it gets old.  A VFD may be just the ticket for you.

Thank you for your service, and enjoy!

The connection to the title is just to get some one to read the thread!   And because years ago it seemed like such a long time till retirement..
The color of the fire station in Los Alamos is "Tech Area16 concrete, 1952 shade"
Nope,  I'm an OSU fan... thats where I went to school...
Going to be living outside of Morrison, out in the country

I realy love to here about someone who "made it" to retirement...gives me hope...congratulations, may the good Lord bless yer days & years!

Also a "retirement" these days is an accomplishment. Corporate America doesn't want or need an employee to stick around long enough to retire anymore. They would rather hire temps that can be laid off when things get slow and they don't have to pay them those pesky health and retirement benefits. Must keep the return on investment to the stockholders at 25% you know.

I just hope when I get to go, if I do, they will let me keep what I've earned.
