Yes, I cried like hell when I left my patrol dog at FT. Bragg. He wasn't dead, I was just getting out of the service.

I had to put my dog down after she became unable to walk because of arthritis.  It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.  I bawld like a baby.

Off the record...yes...

Otherwise, don't ask.

Didnt cry at all. I dug his grave took him to the vet put him to sleep then bauried him.
Went to work after that and was late cause of it.
My boss asked me if everything was allright. I said yeah.
He asked me what kind of dog he was, and I started to cry and said "he was a good dog"

When I put my last dog down about 3 years ago the vet asked me if I was able to drive home. God it must suck to be a vet at those times. Anyway, took threee years to get the strenght to get another dawg. Here she is at about 4 months. Already fretting about THE DAY.

There's something wrong with a man that does'nt cry fer old yeller.  Of course we've all cried for a lost dog.  I know its gonna be bad when I lose the two I've got now.  One's a pup though.

Yes.

And if you don't shed a few tears when your pet dog dies, you ain't human!

My older sister's dog died when I was five, and my dog died when I was 14.  I cried both times.  I have a cat now.  We've only had him for a little over a year, and I already know it's going to be hard as hell when he goes.  He's almost the perfect cat.

Yeah ... Might've had something to do with the fact that he died the day before my Mother who was in bed dying of cancer.

He looked over her and stayed with her the entire time she was sick.

We figured he was going ahead to wait for her and be sure the way was safe.

I haven't. I didn't cry when either of my grandfathers died either. It just hurts so bad at the time it is almost surreal. Later on (maybe hours, maybe months) the reality sets in and I get choked up

Yep cried for a dog and 2 cats and even a snake…

Nice to know some of you will go out of your way to kill some little girls cat crossing the street, I had to deal with that once with a 8 year old after some fucker purposely hit it in front of her.  Real tough guys you are...

Oh and ya I know they shouldn't be loose and I agree but im sure it’s not the decision of the child...

Missing poll option:

No. As great as a dog that's loyal to you is, I'm a cold hearted bastard. Plus the damn thing was losing it's mind and it bit me!

Yes...........and this thread is sort of getting to me.

There is something special and primal about the relationship between man and dog.

Yes, over the years I've had to put my dog and several cats to sleep. One cat was so messed-up that she couldn't wait-out the weekend and I had to put her down myself with a .22. I cried every time. A person who can end the life of their pet and not be sad has no soul...

A living creature that's with you for years and years, you're going to get attached.

The dog we have now is struggling.  I don't think she has much longer, and it's making me sad.

I don't think so sparky...Unlike 99% of pet owners, I don't let my pets run or roam...

Cats have ZERO value.

Each and every time, cats AND dogs- one of the worst weeks of my life was putting down Cous the cat (after 13 yearss) on Wednesday, and then her best buddy, Heidi the Rottweiller (9 years) on Friday- cancer got 'em both-  The more I know people, the more I love my animals

I had to put my 15 year old mutt down this past January due to cancer. I had had her for 13 years ( a little less then 1/3 of my life). I don't know how I made it home from the vet's office.

I called my sergeant (who has known me and her the entire time) and took the week off of work. Worst week of my life....I'm tearing up just writing this. I'll miss her until the day I die.

I've cried reading posts here about people putting their dogs down, and the thought of having to put my buddy down someday has my eyes tearing up right now.

I'm sure that I'll be inconsolable when the day actually comes.
