Down 137 a few minutes ago.
Two main reason were durable goods orders for January were -7.8% (versus a projection of -3%), and Chinese stocks were down 9% overnight, which are dragging down the other markets.
the chicoms had a massive sell-off last night that sparked this.
I actually hadn't looked at the DOW for a few days, and was surprised to see it several hundred points off of its all time highs from last week.
Good thing I don't much care about what the DOW does in a single day.
That works to my advantage since I am about to invest a lot. Better to hit it in a valley.
GreenSpan is saying we are heading into a DEPRESSION.
thats fucked up! |
Truth hurts |
make sure that your at the bottom of the valley and not on the edge hanging from your balls. |
The Dow has not had a 2% down day in over 1 year. 2% down would be a couple hundred points. Nothing to worry about, but ask yourself this: In freely traded markets, how likely is it that a market like the Dow would beat the odds of a 2% down day like it has? We are talking about 2 million to one probablility.

eh, it is the Truth, ive expected some major downing of the stock market for a while now, we'll see what happens. |
When did he say that? All I heard was "recession". |
Consumer Confidence Index and Existing Home Sales both came in higher that expected, which is helping to pull the markets off of their lows.
Based on your technical analysis? |
+1 ... we've had recent daily drops like this and the market rebounded (just check 2006). I've yet to see the sky fall as so many are predicting. |
yes Based on my very elite TA. do your own DD. |

He didn't. He said "recession". Big Ass difference. |
You forgot... RDIAS 17,000 + 1,000 |
Kewl... stocks are on sale... gonna go buy some more! |
The only difference is that we can print money faster and turn the market off. It is what it is when you become a nation that doesn't make anything and imports far more than it exports.
Yes I woke up this morning to see my options trades down by about 5k......I'm hoping it will come back to almost even today, then tomorrow everybody will be back to buy the stock back up.
If not I have put in a few trailing stops to keep me from loosing more. |
I have some loose stocks too. It sucks to see them loosing, cos when the are loosing I am losing, and that makes me a loser that has lost, or is it loost? |
I need a buying opportunity. Hope the market corrects a little more.
i'm not sure, might be more than a correction going on. |
So is this why gas prices jumped 20 cents here today?
I agree that a recession is comming, its about time for one in the normal economic cycle. The question is will it be a big one or a small one. If the dem's get the pres.... I'm not optimistic. |
Good luck guys. My old man always said the market is a crap shoot. The only thing is you don't actually get to hold the dice.
Guys. You're missing the big picture. With the downturn in the Chinese stock market perhaps their economy will slow easing the price of raw materials and bringing ammo prices back down.
That was about 10 mins ago. It's now down 360 |
+1 BIG difference between recession and depression. A recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. A depression is a SEVERE and PROLONGED recession. |
Some of us have been saying that for years. |
That enough yet? |
...as usual the media is trying to freak everyone out and make things worse... I was bound to happen, look how high the markets were.
This isn't a correction... It must drop at least %10 to be a correction. |
