I heard a report that she has withdrawn it and put a "large capacity" magazine ban in it's place?

Nothing on thomas.loc.gov.  Still shows last action as 3/19/2007.  If it has been pulled, maybe it will be updated overnight.

Don't know about it being withdrawn but she did introduce a high cap magazine ban, including no transfers for grandfathered mags.  Feinstein still has her AW ban out there.  McCarthy is going for what she knows she can get.   Pushing through a high cap mag ban will be a piece of cake.  All they have to do is claim the shooter could not have shot as many people if he didn't have high caps.  The Dems control the house and senate, the Republicans in the Senate have voted in favor of gun control many times, and Bush said he would sign an AW Ban so it goes without saying that he would sign a portion of that legislation as well.

It hasn't been withdrawn. She introduced a new bill. I believe it is HR 1889. This goes along with HR 297 and HR 1022.

BTW Thomas still shows that HR 1022 is in sub comittee and her new bill was submitted within hours of the shooting.

Funny Both Cho and Carolyn were mailing their manifestos off at almost the same time. Two psychos.

That was funnier than $hit.  Another person that don't know the difference between a buttstock and broomstick.  The guy asked her "what a barrel shroud is," she didn't anwser his quiestion, and started rambling about something else.  You can tell she memorized all of this BS and just started talking.  Now that is one dangerous lady, making laws she knows nothing about.  I guess you don't have to be very smart in order be a Congress(wo)man.

What is really scarry is that if she, the sponsor of the bill, doesn't know what is in it there are a great number of supporters or co sponsors whom will vote for it and have even less knowledge of what they are voting for.

Actually two new bills; H.R. 1859 to ban high capacity magazines and H.R. 1895 (I wonder if there is some significance in the 59/95 numbering) which is supposed to improve stolen firearm tracking (can you say registration?), requires more FFL inspections and the ever popular "for other purposes".  No text on either is available yet on thomas.loc.gov.

The funny thing is she may be right on H.R. 297.  Improved access to mental health records for NICS would probably have flagged the VT shooter as a wack job.  These hourly news updates on this guy are absolutely stunning.  This guy was known to be a missing alot of his marbles yet NICS had no record of any problems including the court action against him.

Aardvark: I reserve judgement on this woman.  She should've researched what is what before she inro'd the bill.

Predicting human behavior is a very inexact science.  What's going to happen is that the govt is going to err on the safe side and say this guy is crazy, when he isn't.  Think about the liability issues for the govt, and the doctors.  What happens if the docs pronounced this person as sane, and shoots up the place?  I've met some kooky people in my life.

NICS is supposed to have adjudications of "mental defect" listed. The failure to report what is already required by law does not make mccarthy right. HR 297 will give the feds unquestionable access to all of our medical records.

Some people claim HR 297 is nothing more than a funding bill for the brady act. BS. The brady act contained funding provisions.

High capacity mags had nothing do to with the number of people he killed.
If he had used a 1911, they would still be bitching, It would just be about
".45 being to powerful for civilian use"
or
".45 cal rounds are student killer bullets"

It doesn't matter what the killer uses as a weapon the gungrabbers will
always find a way to say that gun control could have prevented it.

As a matter of fact, the most likely way to have prevented this would have been
LESS gun control "Gun Free School Zones"...... my ass.

H.R. 1022 is not only still an active bill, it gained three new sponsors on the day of the VT shootings.

In addition to that bill McCarthy has introduced H.R. 1859 which is basically the magazine restriction language of H.R. 1022 by itself.
