Interesting… Turkey and Iran engaging in military co-operation and intelligence sharing… and I do believe Israel and Turkey also co-operate at a high level too.

Israel - Turkey - Iran, all now co-operating and interacting with each other.

Turkey and Iran coordinating strikes on Kurds in Iraq

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey and Iran have been carrying out coordinated strikes against Kurdish rebels based in northern Iraq, a top general said today in the first military confirmation of Iranian-Turkish cooperation in the fight against separatists there.

Gen. Ilker Basbug, Turkey's land forces commander, said the two countries have been sharing intelligence and planned more coordinated attacks in the future against the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, and PEJAK, the group's Iranian wing.

"We are sharing intelligence with Iran, we are talking, we are coordinating," CNN-Turk television quoted Basbug as telling reporters on the sidelines of a security conference in Istanbul.

"When they start an operation, we do, too," the general said. "They carry out an operation from the Iranian side of the border, we from the Turkish side."

The report did not give any details on the strikes or the targets. The general said no coordinated action had taken place in the past few months.

"We haven't done it in the past one or two months, but we can do it again," he said.

The PKK, which has bases in northern Iraq, has been fighting for self-rule in southeastern Turkey since 1984. Tens of thousands of people have died in the conflict. The main rebel camp is on Mount Qandil, which sits on the Iraqi-Iranian border.

Turkey and Iran both have shelled the area. Iran alleges that rebels from PEJAK, or the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan — which is fighting for Kurdish rights in Iran — also are based on Mount Qandil.

The Turkish military has launched air assaults on Kurdish rebel targets in northern Iraq in recent months. In February, it staged an eight-day, ground offensive that did not go as far as Qandil.

The United States has labeled the PKK a terrorist organization and supports Turkey's fight against the group by providing intelligence on the rebels.

It is a an ever smaller and more complex world in which we live.

Indeed, and the USA must be aware of and approving of these joint Turkish-Iranian attacks on Iraqi terroritory.

Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice.

Iran shelling wounds two in northern Iraq
Thursday, June 05, 2008 22:20

Iranian shelling of five villages in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq close to the Iranian border wounded at least two people on Wednesday, a security official told AFP.

The pre-dawn bombardment of the villages near the town of Sayed Sadiq lasted two hours, said General Jabari Yawar, a spokesman for the peshmerga, the militia which provides security in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, the AFP reported.

"Two civilians were wounded, livestock were killed and fields were damaged," he said.

The shelling of the villages of Kal-Daza, Jomursi, Borye, Siamio and Kani Sif started at 4:00 a.m. (0100 GMT) and lasted until 6:00 a.m. (0300 GMT), Yawar said.

It was the first time that the area had been shelled by the Iranian army, he added.

Other border areas have been repeatedly targeted by Iranian artillery fire as Tehran seeks to halt attacks by the PEJAK, the PKK’s breakaway faction in Iran.

At least 12 Iranian security force personnel have been reported killed in attacks by the PEJAK over the past fortnight, the AFP reported.

Turkey and Iran have been long fighting against the terrorist movements operated by both the outlawed PEJAK and PKK separatists, which are considered  terrorist organizations by Turkey and most of the international community, including the U.S. and the EU.

So, if my enemy's enemy is my friend, and the US considers the PKK a terrorist organisation, and the Iranians consider the PKK a terrorist organisation, and Turkey considers the PKK a terrorist organisation, and the US is supporting Turkey's attacks against them, and Turkey is cooperating with Iran, then that means...

but...

I wonder if Iran has a representative at CENTCOM to co-ordinate things?
