  Bear attack 2009

Apparently
a bear attacked his plane while parked in a remote field up here in AK.
He had not cleaned out the inside after a long fishing trip and the
bear smelled it.

He
had 2 new tires,  3 cases of Duct Tape  and several rolls of cellophane
delivered. Then went about repairing the plane so he could fly it home.

Gutsy, to say the least.

I see a rifle in the after pic, no rifle in the before pic. Does this mean he shot the bear before he fixed the plane?

An aviation friend emailed it to me. Guessing the rifle was next to the tool box during the reconstruction

Yeah one of my pilot friends showed me this a couple days ago.  Pretty crazy stuff.  Kind of reminds me of the latest mythbusters where they made the duct tape boat.  Maybe they should  try an all duct tape plane now too.

assuming the structure of the plane wasnt harmed and the fact that duct tape is just as thick as the skin already on that plane
then it should work  just imagine if you hired a guide and he shows up in that umm no thanks
didnt read the OP properly and was thinking about how he planned on fixing the tires with duct tape lol

I saw the aftermath of a bear encounter with a VW bug. We parked at the trailhead and noticed a donut box with part of a donut left in it.

We came back two days later and the drivers door was ripped off and the inside of the car shredded. The now empty donut box was laying on what was left of the rear seat. Absolutely destroyed the car.

I'm surprised there wasn't more damage to the plane. Those fuckers are strong.

It will work just fine as long as long as you start at the tail and work forward.  It is a bit heavier and won't pass annual but in Alaska, it is common.  Just not that much area

I love the fact that he wrote the N-number on the duct tape with a magic marker.

Note to self.  Never get in the way of a hungry bear, and always carry a throwdown box of doughnuts.

Nah, just bring a friend along that is a little bit slower than you are. Maybe not a GOOD friend.

You don't want to get in trouble with the FAA about not carrying the proper ID number.

He's very lucky, instead of Bear Cavalry he could've gotten tangled up with:

The duct tape is stronger, more tear resistant than the original fabric covering

This.  I got a little stick time in a J-3 Cub and it felt like I was going to destroy it just trying to get inside.

Avoids a federal beef - There are requirements for having the N-Number on the plane.
